Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

• 13 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL) (or 10 years work experience with a Masters degree).

• 5 years of experience as a people manager within a technical leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

• Masters degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

• 15 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL).

• 6 years of experience as a people manager within a technical leadership role.

As the Data Science Manager for Gmail, you will lead a team of data scientists and serve as Gmails quantitative voice. You will lead the data science team for Gmail, Workspaces largest product, shape its core experience and AI strategy through data-driven insights.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and grow a team of data scientists. Hire and retain top talent, coach senior ICs and emerging leaders, and build a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and impact.

• Set the data science goal and roadmap for Gmail. Balance urgent product support with investments in metrics, data foundations, and methods.

• Define, own, and evolve Gmails success metrics, including its north star. Make sure the team reports, analyzes, and forecasts key metric trends and recommends ways to improve them.

• Shape the strategic roadmap for Gmail AI. Identify high-value use cases, evaluate model and feature quality, and quantify the impact of AI on user productivity.

• Partner with Product, Engineering, UX, and cross-functional leaders to influence, prioritize, and support product strategy.
