Overview
The Senior Superintendent is responsible for leading and overseeing field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to Liberty's quality standards. This role provides senior-level field leadership across project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and company personnel while promoting Liberty’s “Setting New Standards” approach.
The Senior Superintendent serves as a key field leader and mentor, supporting Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, foremen, and craft teams in planning, coordination, execution, safety, quality, and productivity. This position requires strong construction knowledge, leadership ability, communication skills, and a commitment to delivering successful projects from site setup through closeout.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, schedules, and coordinates on-site company personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and trade partners.
- Provides leadership, direction, and mentorship to Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, foremen, and field teams.
- Oversees field productivity, manpower, materials, equipment, site logistics, and overall project performance.
- Reviews project schedules, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, manpower needs, and job site requirements prior to and throughout construction.
- Develops and supports site logistics plans, including staging, access, deliveries, storage, hoisting, and movement of materials and personnel.
- Maintains clear communication with Project Managers, Superintendents, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Promotes and enforces a safety-first culture while ensuring compliance with company safety policies, site-specific safety plans, OSHA requirements, and client standards.
- Participates in safety meetings, orientations, toolbox talks, JHA reviews, Take 5s, and other safety initiatives.
- Ensures work is performed according to contract documents, approved drawings, specifications, Liberty quality standards, and project requirements.
- Conducts field inspections, identifies deficiencies, supports corrective actions, and ensures punch list and closeout items are completed.
- Manages and monitors project schedules, milestone dates, three-week lookahead schedules, subcontractor coordination, and material deliveries.
- Identifies schedule risks, delays, field conflicts, and coordination challenges, and works with the project team to develop recovery plans.
- Reviews project budgets, estimates, job cost codes, field costs, productivity, and potential cost impacts with the Project Manager and project team.
- Coordinates subcontractor and vendor activities to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule and quality expectations.
- Maintains accurate documentation of job site activities, progress, manpower, deliveries, safety observations, delays, field conditions, and closeout requirements.
- Supports team development, training, onboarding, and a positive, professional job site culture that reflects Liberty’s core values.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of related construction field experience, preferably in commercial construction.
- Prior experience in a Superintendent or senior field leadership role required.
- Experience managing field operations, subcontractors, schedules, manpower, safety, quality, and site logistics.
- Experience with vertical commercial construction projects strongly preferred.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred or required based on project needs.
- Additional applicable safety, trade, or industry certifications are a plus.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
