    Overview

    Senior Technical Editor

    Bowhead is seeking a Senior Technical Editor for an upcoming effort in McLean, VA. This effort establishes and implements policy, budget, program management, and administrative mechanisms to support nationwide research, development, and technology program. This effort also develops and executes a comprehensive RD&T communications and marketing strategy to promote research and technology initiatives. 

    The senior level editor oversees the entire editorial process for high-stakes technical documentation, ensuring stylistic consistency across large-scale programs and mentoring junior staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Strategic Planning & Campaign Management: As the Strategic Communication Outreach Specialist, you will develop and execute comprehensive outreach strategies and promotional campaigns. You will manage multiple,
    • Responsible for transforming raw data and engineering jargon into authoritative documents that meet the stringent requirements of the agency, including reference checking, fact checking, and ensuring copyright compliance.
    • Focus on substantive editing, verifying technical accuracy, and ensuring compliance with agency style guides for all documents, reports, and manuals.
    • This position requires an expert-level command of the GPO Style Manual and an eye for detail when ensuring quality control for all publications and documents.
    • Work independently, managing the full lifecycle of a document from outline to final publication including online and web publishing.
    • Experience with Chicago Manual of Style and FHWA Communication Reference Guide (CRG) compliance.
    • Section 508 review responsibilities, document version control and multi-level review coordination.
    • Coordination with authors through the publication lifecycle.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree (Senior) in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
    • 10+ years for Senior with supervisory and project management experience.
    • Transportation experience, especially in highway and surface transportation is preferred.

    Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to lift up to 15 to 25 pounds
    • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
    • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

    SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for a Public Trust clearance at this location.
