Position summary
The Senior Technology Project Manager leads the planning, execution and successful delivery of complex, high-impact, enterprise-wide technology projects and programs that support firmwide business and technology priorities. These initiatives may include enterprise platforms, AI-enabled solutions, software development, data and analytics, cloud and infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital transformation efforts. Operating with substantial autonomy, this role manages multiple concurrent initiatives through the project lifecycle and exercises independent judgment in aligning project scope, schedule, budget, risks, dependencies, stakeholders, governance needs, and delivery outcomes.
This role serves as a trusted partner to executive sponsors, technology leadership, business stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to translate business and technical needs into actionable delivery plans and support stakeholder alignment, informed decision-making, change readiness, adoption and business outcomes. The Senior Technology Project Manager also provides senior-level guidance to project managers, analysts, vendors, and project teams.
Job duties and responsibilities
- Lead the successful delivery of complex, high-visibility, enterprise-wide technology projects and programs, exercising independent judgment throughout the full project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, implementation, and closure.
- Independently manage a portfolio of 3–5 concurrent enterprise technology projects and programs, typically ranging from 9–24 months in duration, while supporting Technology PMO operational activities as assigned.
- Manage enterprise technology projects and programs involving multiple workstreams, cross-functional dependencies, organizational change, technology complexity, and material business impact.
- Manage strategic technology initiatives across enterprise platforms, software and digital solutions, artificial intelligence (AI), data and analytics, cloud and infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other firmwide technology priorities.
- Lead assigned complex or emerging technology initiatives by clarifying objectives, requirements, stakeholder roles, project-level governance, and delivery approach needed for execution.
- Partner with executive sponsors, technology leadership, business stakeholders, technical delivery teams, and external partners to define objectives, establish success criteria, align priorities, and translate business and technical needs into actionable delivery plans.
- Develop and maintain integrated project and program plans, including scope, schedules, budgets, resource plans, dependencies, project-level governance, communication plans, success metrics, and expected benefits.
- Coordinate and influence cross-functional teams operating in matrixed environments, holding internal resources, vendors, consultants, and delivery partners accountable for project commitments, quality standards, timelines, budgets, and applicable contractual obligations.
- Identify, assess, and proactively manage project and program risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, resource constraints, and organizational impacts; develop mitigation strategies and drive resolution of complex delivery challenges.
- Lead executive-level communications, steering committees, sponsor briefings, stakeholder meetings, and decision-making forums to present project status, risks, recommendations, tradeoffs, resource needs, delivery forecasts, and strategic considerations.
- Ensure assigned technology initiatives align with enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity requirements, data governance practices, operational support models, regulatory obligations, and applicable technology strategy.
- Monitor and report on project health, delivery performance, financial status, milestone achievement, resource utilization, adoption readiness, operational readiness, expected benefits, and business outcomes.
- Lead project change readiness, stakeholder alignment, communications, adoption planning, training coordination, post-implementation monitoring, and transition-to-support activities.
- Serve as a project-level escalation point and provide senior project management support for assigned at-risk, business-led, transitioning, or underperforming projects and programs, including recovery planning, stakeholder alignment, resource constraints, and complex delivery challenges.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Technology PMO methodologies, templates, governance practices, and processes based on project delivery experience and lessons learned.
- Provide senior-level guidance, coaching, mentoring, and subject matter expertise to project managers, business analysts, vendors, and project teams to support consistent project delivery practices and application of Technology PMO practices.

Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related technical or business field required. PMP or comparable project management certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of project and/or program management experience, including experience managing IT, technology, systems implementation, infrastructure, software, enterprise application, or related technology projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, high-visibility, enterprise-wide, or business transformation technology projects across one or more IT domains, such as cloud, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, network, information security, enterprise applications, or custom development.
- Proven experience managing project timelines, budgets, risks, resources, priorities, and cross-functional technical and business project teams required.
- Experience advising project sponsors, leadership, and stakeholders on project risks, dependencies, decisions, tradeoffs, and delivery recommendations required.
- Experience providing senior project-level guidance, mentoring, escalation support, review of project delivery artifacts, or knowledge sharing to project managers, analysts, vendors, and project team members required.
- Experience working in a law firm, professional services, or similarly complex and highly matrixed business environment preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency with project management, documentation, reporting, and collaboration tools, including Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
- Skilled in translating complex business needs into clear business and technical requirements, project documentation, and stakeholder communications.
- Effective communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with executive, technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to build relationships, influence others, negotiate priorities, and manage expectations across cross-functional and matrixed teams.
- Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills in a complex project-based environment.
- Sound judgment in evaluating project risks, dependencies, competing priorities, escalations, and issues.
- Skilled in providing project-level guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to project team members.
- Project organization and follow-through, including the ability to manage deadlines, documentation, decisions, and next steps across multiple complex projects.
- Flexible and adaptable in response to changing business needs, project scope, priorities, and timelines.
- Ability to work independently and remain productive, responsive, and accountable in a remote or hybrid environment.

Working conditions
You will be required to work in the office at minimum 4 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.
Pay ranges
This represents the presently anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith's pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.
Pittsburgh: $172,000 - $185,000
