Senior Transportation Construction QA Inspector

ATCS’s Construction Services group is expanding in Virginia! We are seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Construction QA Inspector to join our team in Northern Virginia.

This is a senior-level role requiring strong transportation construction inspection experience, current required certifications, and demonstrated experience managing project records and materials documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a consultant/QA or owner-representative capacity and be comfortable independently handling both field inspection and project documentation responsibilities.

Duties:

• Perform transportation construction inspections on highway, bridge, environmental, traffic, and facilities projects.
• Provide oversight of contractor work crews to ensure compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
• Read and interpret contract documents and verify that safe construction practices are being utilized to produce quality results.
• Write detailed daily progress and inspection reports.
• Maintain complete and accurate project records and documentation throughout the project.
• Manage materials documentation and project materials records/books to ensure required information is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
• Document materials, labor compliance, safety, estimates, work orders, adjustments, and other construction activities.
• Report on-site activities and daily progress to the Project Engineer using standardized reporting.
• Calculate, verify, and document pay quantities.
• Perform applicable field testing of materials, including concrete slump/air, soil compaction, and HMA.
• Coordinate with contractors, project staff, engineers, and owner representatives to resolve field and documentation issues.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of transportation construction inspection experience, with senior-level responsibility strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining project records on transportation construction projects is required.
• Experience maintaining materials documentation/materials books is required.
• Consultant, QA, or owner-representative construction inspection experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with Virginia roadway construction and VDOT projects preferred.
• Knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications and Standards.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements for road and bridge construction sites.
• Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Skill in the use of field engineering and inspection/testing equipment, methods, and materials.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and applicable construction/project management systems.

Certifications:

Candidates must possess the applicable certifications required for the assignment. Relevant certifications may include:

• Work Zone Traffic Control
• Asphalt Concrete Field
• ACI Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field
• Soils and Aggregate Compaction
• Nuclear Safety and Transportation
• Pavement Marking and Guardrail Installation
• Stormwater Inspection
• DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection
• OSHA Safety training
• Flagging

Important Experience Requirement

This position requires experience beyond traditional construction materials testing. Candidates must have hands-on experience with the broader project-records and documentation responsibilities associated with transportation construction inspection. Experience that is primarily limited to performing materials tests and preparing individual test reports may not meet the requirements of this senior-level assignment.

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $35.00 to $55.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary.
