Overview: Seeking a Senior Unified Communications & M365 Engineer to design, support, and enhance enterprise collaboration and messaging systems. This role manages end-to-end email delivery operations and administration of Microsoft 365 core services, including Exchange Online (and Hybrid), Teams, and related collaboration platforms.
Office Hours: 4:00 PM 12:00 AM PST
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the architecture, implementation, and support of Unified Communications solutions focused on Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online/Hybrid.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for email architecture, including routing, mail flow, authentication, deliverability, and message hygiene.
  • Administer and support Proofpoint security platforms, including DLP, encryption, TAP, routing, and policy management.
  • Configure and maintain Metadact or similar tools for metadata scrubbing, compliance, and secure file handling.
  • Manage the full email lifecycle, including DNS, SMTP, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, TLS, connectors, and transport rules.
  • Oversee hybrid Exchange configurations, coexistence, and migration activities.
  • Provide Tier 3/4 support to resolve complex messaging and Unified Communications issues.
  • Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and applications teams to ensure secure, resilient, and high-performing messaging services.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Contribute to long-term UC strategy, roadmap planning, and lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Support audits, risk assessments, and compliance efforts related to messaging and collaboration platforms.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Partner with infrastructure and security teams to optimize system reliability and performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead technical projects.
  • Maintain high standards for service quality, technical accuracy, and response efficiency.
Preferred Technical Experience:
  • Experience with telephony/VoIP platforms such as Microsoft Teams Phone, Cisco, or Avaya.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint Online, including site permissions and administration.
Required Skills and Technical Proficiencies:
  • 7+ years in Unified Communications, Messaging, or Microsoft 365 engineering roles.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and hybrid Exchange architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Proofpoint email security solutions.
  • Proficiency with Metadact or similar metadata-scrubbing tools.
  • Deep understanding of email lifecycle technologies: DNS, SMTP, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, TLS, and routing topologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in hybrid messaging and UC environments.
  • Knowledge of Azure AD, OAuth, Conditional Access, and MFA.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell or similar scripting tools for automation and administration.
  • Experience within law firm or professional services environments is preferred.
Certifications (Preferred):
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate
  • MS-100 or MS-203, or MCSE
  • Proofpoint Certified Specialist
  • Other Unified Communications or security certifications.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
