Salary: $85,000 - $125,000 per year
A bit about us:We are a family-owned, union design-build mechanical contractor with 200+ employees and a decades-long track record across the Twin Cities and Upper Midwest. We design, install and service HVAC, plumbing and process piping for healthcare, industrial, hospitality, education, commercial and multifamily clients. Our engineering and VDC teams work side by side with our field crews, and leadership is accessible and technically hands-on. We recently launched an industrial division backed by an ASME-certified fabrication shop. We’re moving into a new facility that triples our footprint, and we’re running a defined, EOS-driven growth plan to scale significantly over the next decade.
Why join us?- Own the plumbing side: plumbing is our biggest VDC need, and you’ll be the go-to senior expert who sets the standard for it.
- Creative control: bring better ideas and we’ll rebuild around them. No “this is how we’ve always done it.”
- Investment you can see: a new 60,000+ sq ft shop and office, plus an expanding prefab operation your models feed directly.
- Growth path: a defined track toward senior VDC leadership and construction technology as the company scales.
- Union or non-union: non-union and union candidates are welcome (union paid under the applicable local agreement.)
- Flexibility and trust: flexible hours, and no micromanaging. If the work gets done, you won’t be policed.
- Culture: family-run, collaborative and fun. Monthly happy hours, a stocked snack bar, job-site barbecues, a 50%-subsidized company store and a legendary year-end party.
- Development: training, software and industry association costs covered.
Job DetailsWhat You’ll Do
- Build LOD 400 plumbing models in Revit with Autodesk Fabrication parts, based on construction documents and approved submittals: domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm, natural gas, and specialty systems such as grease waste and medical gas.
- Produce plumbing shop drawings, spool sheets and complete bills of material in eVolve for the prefab shop and field.
- Lay out sleeves, inserts and hangers ahead of pours.
- Create and maintain Revit families from approved submittals, and verify critical dimensions against manufacturer data.
- Represent the company in MEP coordination meetings with GCs, architects, engineers and other trades. Run Navisworks clash detection, document issues and drive them to resolution.
- Get on site for surveys, QC checks and in-person coordination with install crews.
- Support PMs on RFIs and change orders, and help spot prefab opportunities during preconstruction.
- Help develop plumbing VDC standards, content and spooling processes, and mentor junior technicians as the team grows.
- Support mechanical piping as needed and as your experience allows.
Projects You’ll Touch
- $10M–$20M mechanical projects across healthcare, hospitality, commercial, education, multifamily and industrial work.
What You Bring
- Hands-on experience modeling and coordinating commercial plumbing systems.
- A plumbing trade background is a major plus, as is a CAD/drafting or mechanical design degree with equivalent experience.
- 3+ years in Revit (Autodesk Fabrication preferred) and Navisworks clash coordination.
- Plumbing spool and shop drawing production experience (eVolve preferred; Stratus a plus).
- Working knowledge of the Minnesota Plumbing Code, and the ability to read and critique plans and specs.
- Experience with design-build and plan-spec coordination, RFIs and construction-phase support.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable representing the company in coordination meetings.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple project schedules.
- Interest in mentoring and growing into VDC leadership.
- Mechanical piping or hydronic experience is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Non-union: $85K–$125K DOE, flexible for the right talent.
- Union: wages and benefits follow the applicable local bargaining agreement; experienced hires are likely paid at foreman scale, DOE.
- Company-paid employee medical premium (base plan), HSA/FSA options, 401(k) with company match, PTO and paid holidays, and a company cell phone.
- Bonus program for engineering/VDC being formalized, tied to company profit.
