Service Center Director (9027)

Location: The Salvation Army Greenville, SC Area Command - Oconee County

Position Type: Salaried Exempt

Salary Range: $57,089 - $63,431

About this opportunity:

Supervises and participates in the day-to-day operations of a Service Center responsible for providing assistance to the public; recruits and trains employees and volunteers to assist in performing intake work; performs public relations functions in the community to promote The Salvation Army services and needs; prepares statistical records and other required reports reflecting the Service Center's progress; ensures the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of the Service Center.

Service Centers may encompass the following programs including, but not limited to food pantries feeding programs, and social services programs. Service Center Directors are responsible for supervision of all programs that their Service Center operates, which may expand over the time.

Key responsibilities:

• Recruits, trains, schedules and supervise volunteers to perform client intake work as well as routine typing, filing, answering the phone and providing basic information about The Salvation Army's service's needs, etc. as well as providing assistance with special projects such as Thanksgiving and Christmas recruits and trains volunteers.
• Greets and interviews clients requesting assistance to determine client's eligibility for assistance based on program guidelines and restrictions; records clients disposition and other pertinent information such as income, expenses, family and work history; assists clients in completing applications for assistance; photocopies social security cards, picture identification cards, payroll statements, utility bills etc.
• Serves as liaison to other agencies in order to obtain/coordinate assistance on client's behalf; builds and maintains professional working relationships with community agencies.
• Meets with community church and civic groups to help coordinate activities aimed at assisting The Salvation Army and the local services to assist needy families in their service area; informs same organization of ongoing needs of The Salvation Army and its clients.
• Implements the fundraising and development strategies for the Service Center; requests, processes, and receipts donated monies; inputs data into the computer; prepares deposits and/or submits checks for further processing in a timely manner; maintains the accountability and security of checks.
• Issues information material to local news media as needed to alert the community to the needs of The Salvation Army and its clients.

What we are looking for in you:

• Knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of general bookkeeping and accounting.
• High school diploma or G.E.D required, with supplemental college course preferred, AND
• Five years progressively responsible experience performing office administrative work and developing and/or administering community programs, resources, and contacts, OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid State Driver's License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but may be performed periodically in disaster service areas and camp settings.
