    Description of Work

    The primary duties of this position is to construct, alter, and mend garments and textile items according to customer needs. Measure customers using tape measures to ensure proper fit of garments. Cut sew and assemble clothing using patterns and commercial sewing machines. Repair damaged garments to include but not limited to hemming, replacing buttons or zippers, and patching holes. Modify garment styles and fit based on customer specifications. Maintain sewing equipment, inventory, and work area cleanliness. Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and preferences. Sew red boarders on some of the linen.

    This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

    Recruitment Range: $31,200.00 - $48,810.00 

    The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

    • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of the Linen Room in a safe, clean, and comfortable manner. 

    • Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel, as well as being willing to handle individual based on whatever maturity and/or behavior level they are currently functioning

    • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment/supplies, up to 200lbs. etc. 

    • Must be knowledgeable of laundry/linen practices and procedures, as well as the laws, regulations and guidelines governing these functions in a long term care facility.

    Schedule:

    6:30am-3:00pm Monday-Friday

    Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).     Education and/or experience in sewing that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to a least six months of experience in a commercial or institution sewing, or completion of a sewing course; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
