Day in the Life: Sheet Metal and Structural Fabrication Technician

Location: Clarkston, WA • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM • Overtime: Optional Fridays • Pay: $20–$30 per hour, DOE

Picture your morning: tape measure clipped to your pocket, multitool at the ready, and a clear plan for the day’s builds. You’ll team up with seasoned tradespeople in a busy fabrication and machine shop that supports residential, commercial, and industrial projects—gaining hands-on experience with diverse materials and methods while sharpening your craft.

What You’ll Work On

• Assist with sheet metal layout, cutting, forming, assembly, and installation tasks.
• Support structural fabrication: fit-up, basic welding assistance, grinding, finishing, and painting.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and efficiently.
• Read basic drawings, follow specifications, and take accurate measurements.
• Contribute to material handling, equipment operation (as trained), and general shop projects.
• Partner with experienced teammates to grow your fabrication and mechanical skill set.
• Keep your bay clean, organized, and safe.

About the Work

Our client delivers design, fabrication, mechanical, construction, and specialty building services spanning residential, commercial, and industrial markets. You’ll gain exposure to a wide variety of build types, learning proven techniques and professional shop practices.

What You Bring

• Valid driver’s license.
• Some experience in fabrication, sheet metal, construction, or a related trade (preferred, not required).
• Strong mechanical aptitude; comfortable with hand and power tools.
• Ability to follow direction, work independently when needed, and contribute ideas while staying on task.
• Clear communication and a team-first attitude.
• Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn.
• Capable of physical shop/construction work.
• Accurate measurement skills and legible note-taking.

Nice-to-Have Experience

• Sheet metal fabrication and installation
• Welding, grinding, structural steel work, and metal finishing
• Woodworking or general construction
• Familiarity with forklifts, excavators, scissor lifts, man lifts, and telehandlers
• Sheet metal tools: snips, tongs, hammers, dividers, squares
• Mechanical tools: socket sets, wrenches, pry bars
