Cogent, Inc. is looking for a Shop Service Technician Assistant to support our service team while learning the fundamentals of rotating equipment service and repair. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in quality work, and wants to develop into a Service Technician over time.

What You’ll Do

As a Shop Service Technician, you’ll work alongside experienced technicians in the shop and occasionally in the field. You’ll receive hands-on training while contributing to the success of our service operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Predominantly learning and completing entry-level tasks
• Clean rotating equipment, pump components, and shop tooling prior to disassembly, inspection, and repair — the "C" (Clean) station of the DCI workflow
• Prepare and stage work areas for incoming equipment — staging, tagging, organizing components; stage finished products for shipping and customer pickup
• Assist and shadow Level 2–4 technicians with equipment disassembly, cleaning, blasting, and reassembly; support hydrotesting operations under supervision
• Handle basic material movement — forklift and overhead-crane assistance, pallet staging
• Basic understanding of tools, measuring instruments, and their functions
• Ability to follow directions and work safely in a shop environment
• Learn to identify common pump types, components, materials, and hardware
• Operate basic shop equipment with supervision: band saw, drill press, hydraulic press
• Keep work area and shop floor clean, organized, and tools properly stored per safety and housekeeping standards

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic mechanical aptitude or interest (school, work, or personal experience)
• Ability to lift and maneuver equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs regularly)
• Basic computer skills - Email, MS Word, MS Excel
• Read, write, speak, and understand English
• Ability to work overtime occasionally
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

• Technical or vocational coursework in mechanics or electronics
• Previous exposure to pumps, motors, or rotating equipment
