Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications such as Certified Sleep Technologist (CST) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Strong background in patient education and counseling.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and data management.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and calibrate polysomnographic and other sleep study equipment prior to patient testing.
  • Monitor patients during sleep studies to ensure data quality and patient safety, adjusting equipment as necessary.
  • Collect and analyze physiological data including EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory effort, airflow, and oxygen saturation.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing study findings for review by sleep physicians.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with all regulatory and institutional policies.
  • Educate patients about the sleep study process and address any concerns to promote comfort and cooperation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of sleep study equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support comprehensive patient care and follow-up.

Skills:

The Sleep Technologist utilizes technical skills daily to operate and troubleshoot complex diagnostic equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection. Analytical skills are applied to interpret physiological data and prepare comprehensive reports that assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment planning. Attention to detail and organizational skills are critical for maintaining precise patient records and adhering to regulatory standards.
