Job Description

Job Overview:
  • 40 hours per week; start as soon as possible.
  • Locals preferred; DMV residents prioritized.
  • Public sector/government role in healthcare support.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct routine and complaint-driven inspections of workplaces, public places, and establishments for compliance with smoke-free and tobacco-control laws.
  • Respond promptly to public complaints via online forms, phone calls, or emails.
  • Inspect for active smoking, smoking residue, or use of smoking items.
  • Verify signage requirements, ensuring signs are posted and visible.
  • Perform undercover or unannounced surveillance to document violations.
  • Issue notices of infractions for smoking, signage, or tobacco control violations.
  • Document violations using photos, evidence logs, witness statements, and standardized forms.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections to confirm corrective actions.
  • Provide compliance assistance, including explanations of corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Deliver outreach and education on smoke-free laws, exemptions, signage, and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Regulatory Enforcement, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in investigative reporting and enforcement duties.
  • Familiarity with regulatory inspections and documentation.
  • Native or bilingual proficiency in English.
  • Local to DMV area preferred.
Technical Skills:
  • Field inspection and surveillance techniques.
  • Evidence documentation using photos, logs, forms, and witness statements.
  • Record maintenance and follow-up verification processes.
Functional Skills:
  • Regulatory compliance enforcement for public health laws.
  • Complaint response and investigation management.

  • Infraction issuance and notice procedures.
