Software and AI Product Owner

An established medical billing company in Monsey, NY is hiring a Software and AI Product Owner to take full ownership of its custom in-house billing platform. You will analyze and troubleshoot the existing system, define what gets built next, and lead a major upgrade across multiple areas of the software, including new AI and automation capabilities.

This is a strategic ownership role. You will set the plan, design the processes, and write the requirements, then build and lead the team that executes. You will hire developers, train them on the system and the business, and oversee their work day to day. Hands on development experience is a strong plus since you will be directing engineers, but the expectation is that you lead the build rather than write the code yourself.

Responsibilities: 

• Analyze the current custom billing system end to end, document how it works, and identify defects, gaps, and bottlenecks.
• Troubleshoot issues reported by billing, AR, and operations, determine root cause, and drive them to resolution.
• Own the product roadmap: decide what gets built, in what order, and why.
• Define and add new features and customizations based on requirements gathered from the business teams.
• Design and implement AI and automation capabilities such as document intake and OCR, LLM assisted review, denial prediction, auto routing, exception handling, and automated reporting.
• Lead a multi area upgrade of the current platform covering performance, data integrity, reporting, user experience, and integrations.
• Hire developers to build out the team, then train, mentor, and oversee them, including any outsourced or offshore resources.
• Set development standards, sprint priorities, timelines, code review expectations, and release process.
• Run testing, UAT, rollout, user training, and documentation.
• Measure results after launch (time saved, error rates, days in AR, collection rates) and iterate.
• Stay proactive: bring ownership new technology and new ideas instead of waiting for requests.

Requirements:

• 5+ years in a product owner, technical product manager, or software leadership role where you owned requirements and directed developers.
• Proven record of taking software or automation projects from concept through launch and adoption.
• Practical understanding of AI and automation tooling and where it realistically applies to business operations.
• Experience hiring, training, and managing developers, in-house, outsourced, or both.
• Strong process design and analytical skills, able to map and rebuild a workflow end to end.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable sitting between non technical business users and technical developers.
• Highly organized and self directed, able to own an area with minimal supervision.
• Able to work onsite in Monsey, NY.

Preferred:

• Medical billing, revenue cycle management (RCM), healthcare IT, EHR, or claims systems knowledge. This is a plus, not a requirement.
• Hands on software development background (former developer, engineer, or technical analyst).
• Familiarity with HIPAA, EDI 837 / 835, clearinghouses, and CPT / ICD-10 data.
• Experience with Agile, sprint planning, and tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Asana.
