    Job Description

Do you love movies, TV, and entertainment? IMDb reaches hundreds of millions of fans worldwide, and the Engagement and Growth team is responsible for the features that keep them coming back. As a Software Development Engineer II on this team, you will build both frontend and backend features that drive how users discover, follow, and interact with the entertainment content they care about.

You will own the full development lifecycle for user-facing products such as Interest Pages, the Notification Platform, Badges, and social engagement features like follow, user profiles, and blocking. The team is growing its roadmap to include studio interest pages, self-service tools, discussion forums, and email outreach campaigns, so this is a great time to join and shape what comes next. You will work closely with product managers, technical program managers, and engineers across IMDb and partner organizations to deliver features that millions of entertainment fans use every day.

    Key job responsibilities

Design and build frontend (TypeScript, React) and backend (Node.js, Java) features for IMDb"s engagement surfaces, including Interest Pages, Notifications, Badges, and social features such as follow, user profiles, and blocking, owning work from design through deployment and operations.

Work with product managers, technical program managers, and engineers across IMDb and partner teams to define requirements, prioritize work, and deliver user-facing features that increase engagement and growth.

Write well-documented, maintainable code and participate actively in code reviews, coaching teammates on best practices for quality, testing, and system design.

Identify root causes of operational issues and drive permanent fixes, keeping services reliable and scalable through proactive monitoring and ongoing improvement.

Use generative AI tools to speed up development workflows, evaluate new approaches, and recommend adoption where they improve productivity and solution quality.

    A day in the life

You will start your day checking operational health and engagement metrics for the services you own, then move into focused development on a feature or bug fix. The team swarms on stories together, so expect to pair with other engineers during design discussions or code reviews where your input helps shape direction. You will also spend time coordinating with product managers and technical program managers on upcoming priorities, and mentoring teammates on the systems you have built.

    About the team

The Engagement and Growth team at IMDb builds the features that turn casual visitors into returning fans. We are a team of nine software development engineers who work closely with IMDb"s AdTech, Foundation, and Contributions teams, as well as cross-organization partners. We operate with clarity and transparency: everyone participates in triage, we maintain a prioritized roadmap at all times, and we swarm on work to help each other deliver.

Our team consistently scores in the top quartile for job satisfaction across Amazon. If you want to build products used by entertainment fans around the world, alongside a supportive team that values collaboration and quality, we would love to hear from you.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
