NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS). These are experienced professionals who provide technical and professional assistance to the Department of Agriculture for the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium for positions budgeted at 60+ hours per pay period, Accrued Vacation and Sick Leave, Paid Federal Holidays, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available for positions budgeted at 35+ hours per pay period.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience OR HS/GED Degree

  • Valid driver?s license
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • Customer Service toolkit, ArcGIS, Hand held GPS data collection unit
Duties:

Assist with survey, design, installation, check out and follow-up of conservation practices; prepare engineering designs and plans using available software. Provide general technical assistance including planning and application to support the FOSA engineering workload.

  • Assist with conservation practices utilized under Farm Bill program; determining surveying needs, conducting field surveys, entering survey data required for designing, designing, development of construction plans and specifications and preparing cost estimates.   40%
  • Assist with construction inspections by checking designs and plans and conducting construction inspections during and after construction in order to determine adherence to requirements.   25%
  • Assist with identifying solutions to resolve technical issues arising during planning through completion of engineering practices. Assist with construction quality assurance.   25%
  • Assist with planning of conservation practices utilized under Farm Bill Programs.   10%

Other:
  • Subject to mandatory USDA Computer Security and Privacy training as mandated by law.
  • On-going training is required for all employees and affiliates accessing USDA computer networks. Information security and related training needs will be scheduled as needed by USDA for staff needing updates.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Duties may require being outdoors exposed to a variety of conditions as heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.
  • Required Safety Gear: Employee should wear sturdy safe walking shoes/boots suitable for rough terrain.Employee should wear clothing suitable for inclement weather when necessary.
