    Job Summary

    Responsible for all aspects of the program, including the administration, planning, continuous review, development, and general effectiveness of the program as well as all duties as defined for full-time faculty. Responsibilities also include meeting and maintaining program accreditation requirements, systematic review of program effectiveness among didactic, laboratory, and clinical components, student recruitment, committee assignments and serving as a liaison with health care facilities.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Administers, directs, and organizes the entire program.

    2.Formulates the curriculum and writes course outlines for all professional courses.

    3.Previews and critiques instructor lesson plans, visual aids, student instructional handouts, and summary materials.

    4.Arranges with clinical affiliates for practical experience phases of training.

    5.Directs classes and demonstration sessions in technical aspects of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

    6.Coordinates the pre-professional curriculum with other university departments.

    7.Assigns adjunct faculty to various teaching responsibilities, as required.

    8.Evaluates the entire curriculum and makes periodic revisions.

    9.Selects course textbooks and recommends the purchase of library textbooks.

    10.Participates in student recruitment and student selection for the professional program.

    11.Evaluates the academic and clinical progress of the student.

    12.Acts as a liaison between the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and University officials.

    13.Conducts regular faculty meetings and affiliation visits.

    14.Counsels and advises students in the program.

    15.Assists in developing the program budget with the appropriate university officials.

    16.Prepares purchase orders for all supplies and equipment for the program.

    17.Has responsibility for maintenance of academic class records and records of former students, including current positions and/or locations.

    18.Handles all correspondence for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.

    19.Represents the program at state and local meetings.

    20.Formulates policies and procedures for the professional program.

    21.Serves on University and College committees as needed.

    22.Makes job recommendations and assists in the placement of graduates.

    23.Writes grant applications and progress reports.

    24.Develops and participates in continuing education programs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required and current certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

    2.Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a registered diagnostic medical sonographer, of which two (2) years must include experience in clinical diagnostic care and a minimum of two (2) years teaching in an accredited sonography program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.

    3.Qualifications shall assure proficiency in instructing, curriculum design, program planning and counseling.

    4.Certified in good standing with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and hold a valid registered diagnostic medical sonography credential in abdominal and/or OB-GYN.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Master's degree or Doctorate degree in education or leadership from a regionally accredited college or university.

    2. Five years of teaching and administrative experience in a college or university setting.
