Job Goal:

To provide individualized or small group educational assistance and support to Spanish immersion students keeping accurate records, administering placement tests, providing accommodations for required state assessments, administering the annual Language Proficiency tests, facilitating student engagement and attendance all with the purpose of improving student achievement.

Qualifications:

  1. Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field

  2. Bilingual and work experience with Spanish language learners preferred but not required.

3.Related work experience is preferred but not required.

4.Exceptional ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and interact professionally with others.

5.Demonstrated ability to use good judgment, follow through on assigned tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Essential Functions:

Within established school or department procedural guidelines, the incumbent performs fundamental bilingual classroom support functions to assist students, teachers, and program staff in meeting District goals, policies, and governmental agency regulations. Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers of Spanish immersion on a regular basis to support students in the regular classroom.
  • Provide individual and/or small group instructions to students in an inclusion model.
  • Adapt instructional materials as necessary to meet the needs of Spanish language learners.
  • Assist with task of keeping accurate files and student records.
  • Become a certified Spanish Test Administrator and assist with test administration and state test accommodations.
  • Attend appropriate district staff development and approved state professional conferences to stay abreast of current issues.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, and counselors on student progress as per district-developed practices.
  • Serve as an interpreter for parent teacher conferences on an as-needed basis in the district.
  • Learn and share learning strategies with colleagues to promote effective instruction for Spanish language learners.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student progress, services, and language proficiency levels.
  • Performs related duties as directed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, use fingers to type and/or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands of this position will also include the ability of the individual to perform all the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position normally performs the majority of work in a school building or work office environment
