DPS recruits and commits to educators with passion, who are committed to our vision to aspire to advance ALL learners to their highest potential.POSITION SUMMARY:Instruct students in Spanish language and culture; help students develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Spanish while broadening their understanding of global perspectives. Create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and growth. Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and achievement.RESPONSIBILITIES:Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of EducationSet and reinforce clear expectations and routinesManage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environmentPrepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learnersDemonstrate strong content knowledge in Spanish language and Spanish culturesMaintain accurate and complete records as requiredConduct parent/teacher conferencesAssess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas for intervention if neededKeep parents informed of student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferencesDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of all studentsDesign and implement assessments to measure progress and use data to improve instructional practicesMaintain a positive learning environment that fosters open communicationEncourage ethical student behavior and positive citizenshipParticipate in the selection of textbooks and instructional materialsEstablish and maintain professional relationships with staff, students, and familiesEngage in ongoing professional learning through seminars, workshops, and collaborationDemonstrate effective teaching methods appropriate for secondary world language instructionKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Experience working with adolescent learners in a diverse school settingAbility to foster a student-centered, culturally responsive learning environmentClear and effective oral and written communication skillsActive listening and collaboration skillsStrong organizational and problem-solving abilitiesPrior teaching experience preferredQUALIFICATIONS:Active 023 World Language Spanish Certification issued by the Connecticut State Department of EducationBachelor's Degree in Education or Spanish (Master's preferred)Demonstrated success in a multicultural or urban educational settingExperience with team teaching and collaborationStrong interpersonal and classroom management skillsSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate Salary: Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education which can be found on our website.
