    Job Description

    The School District of Horicon is seeking substitutes for Special Education Aide work, Districtwide supporting the needs for all grade levels. This posting serves as on-going recruitment for the 2026-27 substitute pool. Candidates must enjoy working with children of all ages, be a team player, and have a flexible mindset.

    Employment Type:

    School Year - As needed

    up to 7.25 hours per day

    This is a non-benefited position based on ACA requirements.

    Duties to include:

    Supporting special education students in classroom, large group, small group, and individual settings

    Following directions for instruction provided by special education teachers and classroom teachers

    Providing students with academic, social, emotional, and behavioral support

    Assist the teacher with devising special strategies for reinforcing skills based on an understanding of individual student and their needs, interests, and abilities.

    Assist with supervision of students outside of classrooms including, but not limited to, hallways, lunchroom, recess/playground, field trips, media center, and emergency drills.

    Assist students with personal needs and cares as necessary and appropriate, such as toileting, clothing, and programs/training.

    Successful candidates must have the following qualities:

    • Ability to work with a variety of learners, displaying patience, empathy, and compassion.
    • Must be able to work independently and carry out oral/written tasks with little direction.
    • Discreetly handle information pertaining to students and families.
    • View students through a trauma-sensitive lens with the belief that all students can succeed.
    • Maintain high levels of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
