WAYNE COUNTY REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AGENCY POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Special Education Behavior Consultant PAY SCHEDULE: WCSSF Salary Schedule - Schedule H SUPERSEDES: N/A REVISION DATE: 9/9/2026 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : Provide technical assistance to local district personnel regarding the implementation of evidence-based behavioral practices, special education requirements, and federal and state mandates related to student behavior and discipline. Remain current on federal and state laws, regulations, guidance, and best practices related to behavior supports, special education, PBIS, student discipline, and compliance requirements. Serve as a liaison to local districts, community agencies, and educational partners to coordinate behavioral supports and services for students with disabilities in both general and special education settings. Provide technical assistance, coaching, and professional development to local districts related to Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and evidence-based behavior practices. Provide consultation and technical assistance for students demonstrating intensive or complex behavioral needs, including support for data analysis, problem-solving, intervention planning, and crisis response. Support local districts in building staff capacity to implement effective behavior support systems that promote positive student outcomes, inclusion, and safe learning environments. Participate in countywide and regional efforts to improve outcomes for students with behavioral needs through systems development, resource creation, and collaborative planning. Assist with the coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of behavior-related initiatives, grants, and funded programs including but not limited to START. Serve as liaison, when necessary, to professional organizations and human service agencies. Develop and implement professional development activities. Participate as an active team member in organization projects as assigned. Plan, use professional judgment, and act effectively to carry out the function of this position within the direction provided by Wayne RESA's mission and goals. Regular and predictable attendance. RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS: INTERNAL/EXTERNAL Provide leadership and assistance to local school districts in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Special Education and Early Intervention Services or designee SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None QUALIFICATIONS: Education Master's Degree required Full approval in a minimum of one area of Special Education required Approval as a Supervisor or Director of Special Education preferred State of Michigan School Administrator Certification preferred Experience Minimum of three (3) years of teaching or related Special Education experience required Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience at the local or intermediate district level preferred Demonstrated experience interpreting and implementing special education rules and regulations required Demonstrated experience in providing professional development to diverse adult populations required Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the implementation of positive behavior supports required Non-violent crisis intervention certification training preferred Required Special Skills and Training Demonstrated knowledge of recent trends in special education and their impact on the special education community Demonstrated experience in developing collaborative, general and special education programs Demonstrated ability to work effectively with RESA staff, parents, and district personnel Demonstrated consultation, training, and group facilitation process skills Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations Demonstrated listening, verbal, and written communication skills Demonstrated organization and presentation skills Demonstrated collaboration, team building, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated ability to integrate emerging forms of technology into professional activities USE OF THIS POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position description is not intended and should not be construed to be an exhaustive list of all the duties, responsibilities, skills, efforts, or special conditions associated with this position.
