Birch Agency is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Special Education Director to support a school district in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the 2026-2027 school year. This leadership opportunity is ideal for a special education professional with extensive knowledge of due process, compliance, case management oversight, and special education programming.

The Special Education Director will provide leadership and oversight of special education services, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, support school teams, and collaborate with families, administrators, and multidisciplinary staff to promote positive student outcomes.

Position Details

• Full-time, onsite leadership position

• 8-hour workday

• Oversight of special education programs and services across assigned schools

• Lead due process, compliance, and special education case management initiatives

• Supervise and support special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff

• Partner with district evaluation teams and administrators to ensure effective service delivery

• Monitor staffing, caseloads, and program effectiveness

• Collaborative leadership role within a student-focused district environment

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction for special education services and programming

• Oversee compliance with IDEA, Minnesota special education regulations, and district policies

• Lead due process activities, complaint resolution, mediation preparation, and compliance monitoring

• Ensure procedural safeguards and timelines are implemented with fidelity

• Oversee IEP development, implementation, and quality assurance processes

• Support and mentor special education staff in best practices and compliance requirements

• Collaborate with district administrators, school leaders, families, and community partners

• Analyze student, program, and compliance data to inform decision-making

• Facilitate eligibility, manifestation determination, and complex IEP meetings as needed

• Manage special education caseload oversight, staffing needs, and resource allocation

• Support student-centered programming and inclusive educational practices

• Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and maintenance of special education records

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required

• Minnesota Special Education licensure required

• Minnesota Director of Special Education license preferred or ability to obtain

• Previous experience in special education administration, leadership, or program supervision

• Strong knowledge of special education law, due process procedures, IDEA regulations, and compliance requirements

• Experience overseeing IEP processes, case management systems, and district-level special education initiatives

• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to effectively collaborate with families, administrators, staff, and community stakeholders

• Experience managing complex student cases and compliance matters preferred
