    The Burlington Area School District is seeking additional individuals to join our student support team as a certified Special Education (Title 1) Paraprofessional. An essential part of ensuring all of our students feel engaged in their school experience, the right fit individual in this role is someone who appreciates the joys and challenges of working with school-aged children in a variety of settings.

    Special Education Paraprofessional - What You'll Do:

    • Support teachers in helping students learn and succeed

    • Create a safe, welcoming classroom where every student feels included

    • Be a positive role model and build strong, respectful relationships with students

    • Help students grow in confidence, independence, and social skills

    • Use age-appropriate tools and strategies, including assistive technology

    • Work one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce lessons and activities

    • Repeat instructions and check for understanding

    • Assist with classroom materials and learning tools

    • Help students use technology and stay on task

    • Join team meetings and work closely with staff to support student progress

    • Take on other tasks that help students and the classroom run smoothly

    Qualifications

    • In order to qualify as Title I paraprofessionals, candidates must have at least two years of higher education equivalent to at least 48 semester hours from an accredited higher education institution, have an Associate's degree or be able to pass a state-selected assessment

    • Active licensure through the state of Wisconsin

    Additional Requirements

    • Ability to communicate effectively through a variety of mediums

    • Maintain confidentiality

    • Follow verbal and written directions

    • Effectively utilize system software; includes absence management, employee payroll and Google workspace formats

    Physical Requirements

    This job is classified as light physical work but depending on the assignment could be light/medium. This job primarily involves sitting and standing with occasional walking and bending/stooping. Twisting, squatting/crouching, kneeling, and pushing exerting forces up to 10 pounds are frequently performed. Crawling, reaching overhead, and pulling force up to 15 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 15 pounds are occasionally performed. Verbal and auditory communications are frequently involved. Near and far vision, depth perception, and field of vision are frequently utilized. Handling with both hands is frequent.

    Must be able to...

    • commute to all BASD buildings for support

    • complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm

    • maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and detail

    • assist with cafeteria, cleanup, laundry and playground duties, if needed
