JOB DESCRIPTION The Special Education Teacher serves students with IEPs who have a variety of abilities/disabilities and needs. They provide both core academic instruction and supportive instruction across general education and/or special education settings. EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATION Required

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate
• Special Education certification Preferred
• Full approval in Special Education with Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement preferred; or full approval in at least one area of special education (CI, LD, EI, or Early Childhood Education). QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong assessment background, including test selection, administration and interpretation relative to special education eligibility.
• Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
• A strong commitment to educating students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, as demonstrated by experience with co-teaching or other collaborative delivery models.
• A wealth of research-based instructional strategies to address the academic needs of students with various disabilities, as well as skill in a variety of flexible behavior management strategies.
• Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction as a tool for student learning.
• The ability to independently and accurately implement the requirements of IDEA and Michigan's Special Education Rules on behalf of caseload students.
• Experience working with elementary students.
• The ability to provide leadership/mentoring to peers and parents relative to the requirements of IDEA and Michigan's Special Education Rules.
• Evidence of outstanding organizational and leadership skills including solid understanding and meticulous observance of district procedures, state requirements and federal regulations; demonstrated ability to prioritize a timeline-driven workload in multiple locations; history of timely and accurate completion of reports and special education paperwork; ability to lead diverse teams to consensus; and productive relationships with parents, coworkers, administration and external resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

• Developing and implementing the IEPs for a caseload of up to 7 students.

• Providing direct instruction in essential elements within the special education setting.

• Providing instruction that is supportive of general education curriculum

• Monitoring/documenting student progress on IEP goals.

• Collaborating with general education teachers, other special education team members, administrators and parents to meet the needs of students. • Promotes and communicates high expectations of student performance.
• Communicates with parents regarding student progress, concerns, and programs.

Overview of Our Process: We take great pride in our thorough hiring process in the Novi Community School District (NCSD). For all candidates applying for a position within the NEA, NASA, or for an office staff position within NESPA, we follow a comprehensive procedure to ensure we select the best candidates. Upon successful completion of the screener and first phase of the process, qualified internal and/or external candidates for NEA and NASA positions will receive an email invitation for a one-way video interview. This stage is a crucial opportunity for candidates to showcase their qualifications. After reviewing the one-way video submissions, selected candidates will be contacted by phone for an in-person interview.

Candidates will have a two-business day window to complete both the online screener and the video interview, so candidates should be prepared to dedicate some time during these parts of the process. It is critical that these deadlines are met, as candidates will be excluded from moving forward if they do not complete these components on time.
