Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and individualized support to K–2 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related educational needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field.

• Valid Virginia Special Education teaching license/certification or eligibility for applicable Virginia licensure.

• Knowledge of IEPs, individualized instruction, behavior intervention strategies, and special education practices.

• Understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies for students with autism and developmental disabilities.

• Strong classroom management and behavioral support skills.

• Ability to collect, document, and analyze student progress data.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Patience, empathy, flexibility, and a student-centered approach.

• Ability to create and maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment.

• Ability to work effectively with students who may have communication, behavioral, sensory, or developmental challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

• Experience teaching or supporting students in K–2 or elementary school settings.

• Special Education teaching certification with an Autism endorsement or specialization.

• Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles or other evidence-based autism interventions.

• Experience developing and implementing behavior support plans.

• Experience working with students with complex learning and behavioral needs.

• Experience collaborating with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavioral specialists, and related-service providers.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction to K–2 students with autism and related special education needs.

• Develop and implement individualized instructional plans based on students' IEPs and educational needs.

• Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching strategies to meet individual learning abilities.

• Establish a structured, predictable, and supportive classroom environment.

• Implement evidence-based strategies for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

• Support communication, social-emotional, behavioral, academic, and adaptive needs.

• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate academic and behavioral documentation.

• Collect and analyze student data to evaluate progress toward IEP goals.

• Implement appropriate behavioral support and positive reinforcement strategies.

• Collaborate with general education teachers, related-service providers, administrators, and multidisciplinary team members.

• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to IEP goals.

• Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and educational needs.

• Support students with transitions, routines, social skills, self-regulation, and classroom participation.

• Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.

• Follow school policies, special education regulations, and confidentiality requirements.

• Assist with crisis prevention and behavioral intervention procedures when appropriately trained.

• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school activities.

• Maintain accurate educational and behavioral records.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.
