Job Title: Specimen Technician I – 1st Shift Location: Salisbury, NC 28144 Position Type: Contract – 3 Months Contract End Date: December 31, 2026 Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–5:00 PM | 20 hours/week Job Summary: The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This is a production-focused laboratory environment requiring accuracy, attention to detail, strong organization, and efficient data entry.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform specimen processing functions including A-station, presort, pickup/delivery, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
Accurately identify, process, label, and prepare specimens according to testing requirements.
Perform data entry at a minimum speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Learn and understand specimen types and testing requirements.
Follow laboratory safety, compliance, and biohazard procedures.
Maintain productivity, quality, and turnaround-time standards.
Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other departments.
Adapt to changing procedures, customer requirements, and workload demands.
Support departmental operations, including overtime, weekends, holidays, or on-call work as needed.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic computer and data-entry skills.
Ability to accurately enter information at a high volume.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow safety, quality, and compliance procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous laboratory or specimen-processing experience.
Medical or healthcare background.
Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical laboratory procedures.
Hospital laboratory experience.
Previous production-environment experience.
