Job Summary
The Specimen Technician (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department, performing a variety of production-focused laboratory support functions. This role requires a strong data entry background, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a high-volume, biohazard environment while meeting strict quality and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform specimen processing support functions including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
Ensure all work is completed with accuracy, confidence, and timeliness.
Enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Learn and understand specimen types related to client-ordered tests.
Maintain compliance with test-ordering regulations, which may change frequently.
Work in a production environment with a strong emphasis on productivity and quality standards.
Practice proper biohazard safety procedures at all times.
Communicate effectively with staff at all organizational levels.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to daily operational changes.
Adhere to all core values, safety, and compliance policies.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Basic understanding of computer systems.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing.
Medical background, including clinical laboratory terminology.
Prior experience in a laboratory, hospital, or production environment.
