POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Sports Information is responsible to the Athletic Director. The position is part time and does not offer benefits, as specified in the handbook. The SID will provide media, website, home contest administration, and statistical oversight for all university athletic programs.
Employee must possess a vibrant, personal Christian faith including a clear testimony of Christian conversion and be actively involved in a Southern Baptist church.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and be responsible for official statistics at all home HLGU athletic contests. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing and coordinating all computer hardware and software that is necessary to operate statistic programs required by the conference and National Athletic Intercollegiate Association (NAIA).
- Provide live video streaming for all varsity home soccer, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and softball contests. Includes set up and breakdown of event.
- Oversee quality public address system for all sports, which includes generating and revising scripts as necessary.
- Submit nominations for all applicable conference and NAIA awards on a weekly, monthly, annual or when needed basis. This includes but is not limited to athletic, academic, and character, individual and team awards.
- Submit and post all results/stats in a timely manner to local media, NAIA, HLGU website, and opponent's media outlets.
- Maintain and ensure accurate and up-to-date information on the HLGU athletic website.
- Write and submit press releases within established guidelines after each contest, recruit signing, and other newsworthy stories.
- Coordinate with PR department to write stories that relate to the athletic department. (i.e., service projects by teams, individual and team honors, etc.)
- Supervise student workers and interns from Communication Arts Dept. • Other duties requested by the Athletic Director.
DEPARTMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS
Ability to work with various athletic department staff members to ensure quality media exposure for programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have efficient knowledge of athletic statistical software.
- Must have ability to write articles that will regularly appear in local media outlets and on HLGU athletic website.
- Must have values consistent with the mission and purpose of Hannibal-LaGrange University.
- Must agree to, sign off on, and abide by the standards of employment on the back of the application, on the yearly contract, and in the staff handbook.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Undergraduate Degree required
