Senior Application Developer with DevOps

Summary

Join a small engineering team migrating legacy Java apps from JBoss to WildFly on Amazon EKS, with future Java upgrades and modernization initiatives. You'll work across Java development, infrastructure, troubleshooting and deployments, collaborating with application teams to solve technical challenges. Looking for a strong problem solver who takes initiative and communicates well. Remote, 12-month contract with extension likely.

Responsibilities

• Migrate legacy Java applications from JBoss to WildFly on Amazon EKS

• Support Java version upgrades, resolving compatibility issues, broken APIs, libraries and dependencies

• Troubleshoot and modify existing Java code to support application migrations

• Work with Maven, CI/CD pipelines, automation and application deployments

• Collaborate with application teams on migration plans, testing and troubleshooting

• Take ownership of technical challenges, proactively communicate and work independently to find solutions

• Leverage AI development tools to assist with code analysis, troubleshooting and modernization

Requirements

• Strong hands-on Java development experience, including enterprise applications

• Experience modernizing, upgrading or migrating existing Java applications

• Hands-on experience with DevOps, infrastructure, CI/CD or application deployments

• Kubernetes, Docker, Helm or Amazon EKS

• Jenkins, CI/CD automation and deployment pipelines

• Maven dependency management, build configurations and troubleshooting

• Strong problem-solving skills, initiative and ability to work independently

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Preferred

• JBoss, WildFly or other Java application server experience

• Major Java version upgrades, vulnerability remediation and production troubleshooting

• AI coding tools for code upgrades and modernization (team uses Kiro)

• Spring Boot or Angular (future work)

This is a 12-month Contract opportunity with extension likely, with our Kansas City, MO client.
