    This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes.

    As a Sr. Associate I, Metrology & Manufacturing Engineering, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving calibration and metrology systems while supporting manufacturing process engineering activities. This role combines ownership of measurement systems, equipment qualification, process development, troubleshooting, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.

    Specifics Include:

    • Develop, modify, implement, and maintain calibration and metrology programs to support manufacturing operations, engineering activities, and regulatory requirements.
    • Evaluate measurement systems and identify sources of error to improve process reliability, equipment performance, and product quality.
    • Develop and validate calibration methods using measurement science principles, statistical analysis, and industry best practices.
    • Design, develop, and implement new or revised production processes for efficient and economical manufacturing operations.
    • Support the design, qualification, validation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and inspection systems.
    • Devise and implement procedures for the calibration of electronic, electromechanical, dimensional, pressure, optical, and laser-based measurement equipment.
    • Specify procedures for fabricating tools and equipment and adapt machinery to manufacturing conditions.
    • Conduct studies, tests, and investigations throughout production stages to identify variation, troubleshoot issues, and improve process capability.
    • Troubleshoot calibration systems, measurement equipment, manufacturing processes, and production equipment to resolve technical issues and minimize downtime.
    • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Supplier Quality, and Operations teams to ensure metrology standards, process controls, and manufacturing requirements are effectively implemented.
    • Lead or support equipment qualifications, process validations, measurement system analyses (MSA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Provide technical guidance to product design and manufacturing teams regarding equipment capability, measurement methods, tolerances, and manufacturing techniques.
    • Make sound technical and strategic decisions within assigned projects to improve operational performance, quality, and compliance.
    • Support organizational objectives for productivity, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

    What You’ll Bring to Alcon

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
    • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
    • 2 Years of Relevant Experience
    • Work Schedule: 8:00AM-5:00PM (Monday-Friday)
    • Work Location: Onsite – Irvine, CA (Alton Parkway)

    Preferred Qualifications/ Skills/ Experience

    • Experience in manufacturing engineering, metrology, calibration, quality engineering, or related technical fields.
    • Strong understanding of metrology fundamentals, including measurement error, traceability, calibration methodology, tolerances, measurement ranges, and measurement conditions.
    • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 concepts, especially as they relate to calibration practices, traceability, uncertainty, and ensuring calibrations are performed in a compliant manner.
    • Familiarity with ISO 10012 measurement management systems and how those requirements apply within a regulated manufacturing environment
    • Experience with SPC, MSA, Gauge R&R, and process capability studies.
    • Working knowledge of GxP, quality systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
