Senior Business Consultant – Enterprise Identity Experience
Alameda, CA - OnSite
6 Months Contract + Possible extensions based on performance

Role Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced, client-facing analyst to lead the redesign of a large enterprise identity dashboard for an enterprise client in the life-sciences sector.
  • The client's single sign-on dashboard has grown organically to well over one hundred application tiles. The engagement will replace this with a governed, well-organized experience — improving usability, enforcing least-privilege visibility, and increasing self-service adoption.
  • This is not an administrative or coordination role. The person in this role is the primary interface between the client's business stakeholders and the delivery team. They will run the discovery, design the information architecture, produce the proposed layouts, and drive the design to stakeholder sign-off. Deep platform administration is handled by dedicated engineers — this role owns the experience, the requirements, and the design.
The core challenge
  • Take a catalog of 120+ enterprise applications, understand who genuinely needs each one, and design an information architecture that works — within the real constraints of the identity platform. This requires equal parts analysis, stakeholder facilitation, and design judgment.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery & Analysis
  • Build a complete inventory and classification of the application catalog (120+ tiles): integration type, current assignment model, intended audience, actual usage, and compliance relevance.
  • Analyze usage data to identify over-assigned applications, stale tiles, and duplicate or non-production tiles that should not be user-facing.
  • Capture end-user feedback (interviews and/or survey) to understand how people actually navigate and where the current experience fails them.
  • Design the category taxonomy for the full catalog, working within the platform's native constraints (a hard limit on the number of top-level categories) — the central design challenge of the engagement.
  • Produce wireframes and proposed layouts, iterate them with stakeholders, and present them for formal sign-off.
  • Design the self-service access experience so that requesting access is discoverable and ticket-free.
  • Consider and plan for migration: many users have already hand-arranged their own dashboards, and a global reorganization must account for that.
  • Translate approved designs into clear, implementable specifications for the Okta engineer.
  • Coordinate the engagement day to day: schedule, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder communication.
  • Document the delivered standards and the ongoing hygiene routine for client handover.
Phase 2 (contingent)
Should the client elect to proceed to a custom portal, this role continues as the experience and requirements owner — leading the portal's interface design and carrying the requirements forward. (The portal build itself would be performed by a separate development team.)

Required Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years in a client-facing analyst, consultant, or business-analysis role within enterprise IT — ideally in a consulting or professional-services environment.
  • Demonstrable information architecture experience: you have taken a large, disorganized catalog of applications, services, or content and designed a taxonomy that real users could navigate. Please be prepared to describe a specific example.
  • Strong requirements elicitation and facilitation skills: running working sessions with business and application owners, driving them to decisions, and documenting outcomes rigorously.
  • Working knowledge of identity and access management concepts: SSO, user groups, application assignment, birthright vs. requestable access, joiner/mover/leaver, least privilege. You do not need to be an IAM engineer, but you must be fluent enough to design something that can actually be implemented.
  • UX / design capability: able to produce wireframes and proposed layouts (in any standard tool) and present and defend them to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — this person presents to senior client stakeholders and their credibility carries the engagement.
  • Onsite availability at the client site during business hours for the engagement duration.
Highly Desirable
  • Hands-on exposure to Okta (or a comparable IdP such as Entra ID / Azure AD, Ping, or SailPoint), particularly its end-user dashboard, application assignment, and access-request capabilities.
  • Experience with identity governance concepts: access requests, approvals, certification/recertification.
  • Experience delivering an employee portal, intranet, or service-catalog experience (e.g. ServiceNow Employee Center, SharePoint/Viva, or a comparable platform).
  • Experience in a regulated environment (GxP, SOX, or similar) and familiarity with change control.
  • Life-sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotech client experience.
