Job Description:
We are seeking a seasoned Cisco Network Engineer on behalf of a regional digital federal credit union headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT. This 6-month contract-to-hire role sits at the intersection of network infrastructure and financial services, supporting a multi-site environment spanning 12 remote branches, an operations center, and two data centers. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with Cisco SD-WAN (both cEdge and vEdge platforms), Palo Alto next-generation firewalls, and cloud networking in AWS — areas where the current team has identified critical skill gaps. You'll step into an active Palo Alto network segmentation project mid-stream, drive SD-WAN stability and optimization, and serve as a key escalation resource across the broader network stack. Experience supporting online banking infrastructure and an understanding of financial institution compliance requirements are essential to success in this role.

Required Skills:

SD-WAN & Core Routing

• Hands-on design, deployment, and troubleshooting of Cisco SD-WAN — both cEdge and vEdge platforms across multi-site environments
• Strong understanding of SD-WAN policy, application-aware routing, QoS, and VPN segmentation
• Proficiency with Cisco vManage for centralized orchestration and monitoring
• BGP, OSPF, and enterprise WAN protocol experience across distributed branch topologies

• Hands-on administration of Palo Alto firewalls including PA-3220 and PA-820 series hardware
• Proficiency with Panorama for centralized policy management and reporting
• Experience executing and completing mid-project network segmentation initiatives — ability to inherit and drive an existing project to completion
• Zone-based policy design, security profiles, NAT, and SSL decryption configuration

• AWS VPC design including subnets, route tables, internet/NAT gateways, and security groups
• AWS Direct Connect or Site-to-Site VPN integration with on-premises infrastructure
• Familiarity with AWS Private Link for private service connectivity (e.g., Snowflake via Private Link)
• Network access control, traffic inspection, and cloud-to-branch connectivity in hybrid environments

• Working knowledge of Cisco Catalyst 9300 series switches — VLANs, STP, port-channels, and QoS
• Familiarity with Cisco Meraki managed switching and wireless (MS and MR series) in a multi-site deployment
• Ability to collaborate with and hand off to specialists managing Meraki and Catalyst environments

• Experience supporting network infrastructure in a regulated financial institution (credit union, bank, or similar)
• Familiarity with online banking system connectivity requirements, uptime SLAs, and redundancy design
• Awareness of network security controls relevant to PCI-DSS, NCUA, or FFIEC audit environments

• Client platform knowledge — familiarity with network connectivity, latency requirements, and integration patterns common in Client-powered core banking environments
• Cisco Collaboration infrastructure awareness — understanding of UC/voice network dependencies across a multi-site Cisco Collab deployment
• MDS Fibre Channel switching fundamentals — ability to communicate effectively with storage/compute engineers on SAN-attached infrastructure
• CCIE Enterprise or CCIE Security certification
• Experience supporting dual-data center failover and network-layer DR planning
• Cisco SD-WAN migration experience — greenfield deployments or branch cutover projects
