Sr. Construction Cost Control Specialist

Tesla is seeking a Sr. Cost Controls Specialist with relevant construction experience to support the buildout of Tesla's facilities and infrastructure. This position will be responsible for cost management, cost analysis, analyzing financial and cost engineering data, cost reporting and benchmarking throughout the various project stages. In addition, this role will support the change management and risk management process for design and construction, and analysis targeting cost reduction and efficiency initiatives. Your expertise will contribute to the overall profitability and competitiveness of our capital projects team and organization.

• Cost Control Management: Support the development and implementation of cost management program for construction projects, including approved budget, total commitments, cost tracking (incurred and invoiced costs). Work closely with project team to forecast project costs during project execution
• Change Management/Cost Forecasting: Support the Change Management process to ensure accurate cost projection for each project.  Utilize cost data and trends to predict potential cost overruns or savings and provide recommendations for mitigation. Collaborate with project managers to ensure that cost controls are in place and budgets are adhered to.
• Cost Communication: Manage program teams to produce dashboards to communicate cost performance across teams
• Cost Analysis & Tracking: Perform trend analysis and actively evaluate project cost performance to identify potential risk areas and validate forecast
• Reporting: Maintain cost tools and reports to communicate project cost metrics and performance with the project team and senior management
• Benchmarking: Track and analyze historical project data to develop current cost trends and benchmarking data for estimating current and future projects
• Stay current with industry best practices and emerging cost management technologies to drive ongoing process improvement. Implement cost control best practices and seek opportunities for process improvements
• Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in construction project controls, cost management, budgeting, and forecast analysis, ideally in the complex commercial and industrial construction industry
• Strong knowledge of cost management processes and cost structures on large-scale EPC projects, understanding the construction means and methods in civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing/process disciplines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments, in ambiguous environments
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and agile in learning and utilizing new software; Advanced MS Excel skills are a must, ability to work in SQL is a bonus
• Proficiency in financial modeling and cost analysis tools and ability to use PowerBI dashboards to report to executive management
• Capacity to work within a high-performance, cross-functional and fast changing organization with extremely tight timelines and aggressive goals
