At Countable Labs, we're reimagining the future of genomics—and we'd love for you to be a part of it! As the innovators behind our groundbreaking Countable PCR platform, we're building tools that make a real impact in precision medicine. We're a fast-growing startup fueled by innovation, collaboration, and a mission-driven spirit. If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, build something from the ground up, and help shape the future of genomics, we want you on our team!
Role Overview
Countable Labs is seeking a Senior Director, Business Development to drive strategic revenue growth across our highest priority accounts, with a focus on top-20 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
This is not a traditional lead generation or account management role, it is an executive level, quota carrying position for a proven business development leader who can build and maintain trusted partnerships with R&D, translational, and diagnostics leadership across key therapeutic and clinical areas including: Oncology, Cell and Gene Therapy, Pharmacogenomics (PGx), CDx, and MRD.
The goal of this role is to identify high-value opportunities, navigate complex enterprise organizations, and convert strategic relationships into signed, recurring revenue generating partnerships.
You will operate with significant autonomy in a fast-moving early stage environment, reporting to VP of Global Sales, and represent Countable Labs directly to senior scientific and commercial stakeholders inside some of the most complex buying organizations in the industry. Success in this role is measured by closed deals with marquee biopharma and biotech accounts.
What You'll do
- Build and advance a qualified pipeline of high-value opportunities across R&D, clinical development, and diagnostics organizations.
- Full-cycle ownership of strategic enterprise deals — from opportunity identification through negotiation, contracting, and close — within top-tier pharma and biotech accounts.
- Design and deliver consultative, technically credible solutions tailored to each account's scientific and operational priorities.
- Lead commercial negotiations and structuring complex, multi-stakeholder agreements that reflect enterprise deal cycles and procurement requirements.
- Cultivate trusted, executive-level relationships with scientific, clinical, and commercial decision-makers — becoming a credible long-term partner, not a vendor.
- Partner closely with product, science, and executive leadership to shape offerings that resonate with biopharma buyers and to accurately forecast and report on pipeline and bookings.
- Represent Countable Labs at industry conferences, scientific forums, and key opinion leader events to build market presence and generate strategic introductions.
What you'll bring
- 10+ years of enterprise business development or sales experience in biopharma, diagnostics, or life sciences technology, with a demonstrated track record of closing strategic deals with top-tier pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
- Strong technical fluency in biopharma R&D, clinical development, or diagnostics processes, enough to earn credibility with scientific and clinical stakeholders, not just commercial ones.
- Proven ability to navigate long, multi-stakeholder enterprise sales cycles spanning scientific champions, procurement, legal, and executive sponsors.
- Executive presence and the gravitas to engage confidently with C-suite and senior R&D/clinical leadership.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and limited infrastructure in a dynamic, high-growth startup environment, and the ability to build consultative solutions on the fly.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a life sciences discipline strongly preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Deal sheets required. As part of your application, please include representative (redacted/anonymized as needed) deal sheets or summaries of strategic transactions you have personally sourced and closed with top-tier pharma or biotech accounts. We're looking for evidence of deal size, deal structure, stakeholders navigated, sales-cycle length, and your specific role in getting the deal signed vs team or company-level results.
- Travel Requirements: Ability to travel 50–70% to engage with biopharma customers, develop strategic accounts, attend industry conferences, and support key commercial initiatives. Travel will primarily be within the US, and to select international customer sites as needed.
