The Opportunity
The Sr. Director, Development and Construction is accountable for store design strategy, entitlement and construction execution for Quick Lubes. This position enables Quick Lubes retail store growth objectives for each quick lube platform on a global basis: VIOC Company, VIOC Franchise, Great Canadian Oil Change, Major responsibilities include: identifying and managing third party professional service providers(architects and engineers) , leading the permitting and entitlement activities for the entire Quick Lubes project portfolio, oversight and continuous improvement of the store construction process.
Job Description
- Overseeing the entire permitting and construction process and drives continuous improvement initiatives in: (a) architecture and engineering (b) zoning, permitting and 3rd party approvals (a) contractor identification, bidding and selection (b) materials, methods and timing (c) documentation, specifications and construction details (d) quality assurance for delivered work
- Identifying, selecting, leading and utilizing a professional infrastructure of architects, engineering firms and other professional 3rd party service firms working in concert with internal team members to create a seamless development team and program for Quick Lubes.
- Overseeing the design and entitlement work necessary to meet VIOC & Valvoline Great Canadian Corporate Ground Up Store Growth goals; Collaborating with Real Estate, Legal and Operations regarding site feasibility from an operational and financial perspective; Approving all new store site layouts; Overseeing the planning detail of permitting timelines required to support real estate deal negotiations and is ultimately responsible for the delivery of permits within contract deadlines.
- Direct investment strategy for acquired stores to company standards; Accountable for defining the project investment strategy and scope of work that balances potentially conflicting priorities while delivering operational safety, brand standards, and meeting project financial hurdles; managing the expectations of all stakeholders as required to ensure conversion strategy is consistent with site specific requirements and approved budgets.
- Overseeing the execution of work through a combination of planning and field inspections to ensure conversions and capital projects are consistent with approved scopes of work, per company specifications, and completed in a professional manner; Providing coaching and upskilling to the Manager of Facilities and the Facilities Project Managers.
- Overseeing the requirements and the preparation of the Annual Capital Budget for all acquisitions, store improvements, special projects and the new store construction program.
- Overseeing Image technical design and strategy work for VIOC, VIOCF, Valvoline Great Canadian Oil Change and Express Care locations. Major responsibilities include; defining and approving specifications and manufacturing details, ensuring vendor compliance with company trademarks, and driving quality assurance via inspections to stores and manufacturing facilities; Collaborating with Sr. Management, Operations, Marketing, Franchising, and Express Care as necessary to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction with the image program.
- Serving as subject matter expert to Franchise community regarding site feasibility, entitlement process, construction methodology and budgeting; Working directly with Franchisee owners to support their needs and adapt their requirements while maintaining corporate standards and store criteria.
- Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.
What Youll Need to Succeed
- B.S. Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent
- Minimum ten years Retail Construction Management experience
- Minimum ten years staff management experience
- Finance and budget control experience
- Facility Design experience including specification and detail development.
- Contract analysis and negotiation
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and working knowledge of Lucemex or equivalent project management tools
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
