The Senior Director, Digital Commerce is a data-driven executive responsible for shaping and accelerating Petco's end-to-end digital ecosystem across eCommerce, mobile app, digital operations, site merchandising, product content, and conversion optimization. This leader drives a seamless, high-performing, on-brand digital customer journey that integrates cross-functional strategies to deliver profitable growth and measurable business outcomes.

They serve as the enterprise owner of the digital P&L, championing customer-first experiences, operational excellence, merchandising rigor, and technology-enabled innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Commerce Leadership & P&L Ownership

• Own the full digital P&L, including revenue, margin, conversion, AOV, and profitability targets across sites, mobile web, and app
• Develop and execute the annual digital commerce strategy, aligning across Merch, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and Technology.
• Drive demand forecasting, digital promotions, price strategy inputs, and forecasting alignment with Planning, FP&A, and Merchandising
• Identify and scale emerging digital growth opportunities, including new categories, business models, and innovative commerce integrations.
• Own executive‑level business reporting to SLT, clearly articulating performance trends, risks, and short‑ and long‑term strategic recommendations

Site Merchandising & Product Content

• Lead and develop a high-performing digital merchandising team, fostering a cohesive, intuitive digital experience spanning all categories
• Partner closely with Merchandising across all categories to ensure online product selection, depth, and brand mix supports digital goals and drives enterprise profitability
• Oversee enterprise standards for product content quality (copy, imagery, rich media, ratings & reviews).
• Ensure assortments, category presentation, and storytelling are aligned with Merchandising and Brand Creative
• Shape the product discovery experience as item catalog scales, partnering with Product Management to ensure relevance at scale
• Oversee site content and calendar development in partnership with Marketing to fuel demand, customer acquisition, and loyalty engagement across site and email

Digital Operations & Conversion Optimization

• Identify and champion site-wide navigation, search, and product page enhancements - in partnership with Product Management - to improve conversion and enrich the customer experience
• Monitor site analytics - including product conversion rates, choice counts, and sales by category - to measure efficacy of assortment, content, and merchandising decisions
• Champion the end-to-end customer experience - from discovery and purchase through fulfillment, pickup, and returns - working across Supply Chain, Customer Care, , Store Operations and Technology to ensure aligned accountability to the full customer journey
• Lead the integration of AI-powered personalization and agentic commerce capabilities into the merchandising strategy, in partnership with Product and Technology

Marketplace Business Management

• Own P&L performance for Petco's marketplace businesses (e.g., Amazon, Instacart, DoorDash Marketplace, etc.)
• Manage marketplace assortment, pricing inputs, digital shelf quality, supply chain prep requirements, and partner advertising opportunities
• Lead relationships and performance reviews with marketplace partners and ensure compliance with channel policies
• Develop marketplace expansion strategies (new partners, new categories, improved content, enhanced logistics)
• Monitor marketplace health: search share, buy box %, return rate, ratings, customer feedback, and operational defects

Leadership, Talent, & Culture

• Build and mentor a high-performing digital team across site merchandising, marketplace management, site operations and digital analytics

• Partner with:

• Marketing on campaign strategies, landing pages, and traffic optimization

• Merchandising on digital category strategy, product launches, and promotions

• Supply Chain on fulfillment, delivery speed, inventory accuracy, and operational SLAs

• Technology/Product on A/B testing, platform enhancements, roadmaps, and digital capabilities

• Analytics & Data Science on measurement

• Foster a culture of innovation, agility, accountability, and customer-obsession

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Operations, or related field.
• 12+ years in eCommerce, digital experience, or omnichannel retail leadership, including 5+ years leading large cross-functional teams.
• Proven track record owning or influencing a significant digital P&L.
• Deep knowledge of site merchandising, digital analytics, and CRO
• Experience in a complex omnichannel retail environment
• Strong analytical, strategic, and financial acumen
• Demonstrated ability to translate customer pain points into digital experience solutions
• Exceptional leadership, executive presence, and communication skills

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.
