Tesla Energy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Verification Test Engineer to own mechanical subsystem and component testing of battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV charging, and solar products. You'll work closely with Architecture, Systems Engineering, and Design teams to plan and conduct critical testing of high-risk subsystems early in the product development cycle. Learnings from your work will keep product quality high while shortening time to product launches. This position requires mechanical and test engineering expertise, a willingness to be hands-on, and strong organization skills.

  • Develop comprehensive design verification test plans, protocols, and acceptance criteria based on system and subsystem requirements
  • Execute hands-on testing, monitor tests, collect and analyze data, and perform RCAs of test failures for mechanical components such as thermal systems, actuators, busbars, vents, enclosures, etc.
  • Document results thoroughly: generate clear test reports, summarize findings, track issues, maintain traceability, and communicate status, risks, and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Support design reviews, DFMEA, and continuous improvement of test methods and overall verification and validation strategy
  • Collaborate closely with Architecture, Systems Engineering, Design, Test Infrastructure, and Project Management teams for successful testing
  • Uphold lab safety standards, especially for high voltage (HV), high-power, and energy storage testing environments; follow all relevant procedures and contribute to safe test practices
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in verification and validation, product testing, or similar hands-on roles involving testing of electromechanical systems, batteries/energy storage, or EV/charging hardware
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, thermal management, materials behavior, and common failure mechanisms in electromechanical and power systems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute test plans for complex subsystems, including interpretation of requirements, design intent, and mechanical drawings/schematics
  • Hands-on experience with test setup, instrumentation (thermocouples, accelerometers, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.), data acquisition (e.g. LabVIEW, NI tools), data analysis (e.g. Python, MATLAB), and report writing
  • Preferred: Familiarity with requirements management and traceability
  • Preferred: Experience specifying test fixtures/stands and working with test infrastructure development
