Position Specific Description

As a senior member of the Power Generation Division (PGD) Environmental, Health, Safety, and Emergency Response (EHS&ER) Team within NextEra Energy Pipeline Services (NEPSCO), the Senior PGD Safety Specialist provides technical leadership and field support for safety and health programs across landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) and renewable natural gas (RNG) operations. The position interprets regulatory and company requirements, evaluates operational and project risks, improves safety management systems and related programs, leads investigations, and delivers training and coaching. It also partners with employees, leaders, contractors, and other stakeholders to strengthen compliance, reduce risk, prevent injuries and illnesses, and advance the companys injury-free lifestyle vision, including off-duty injury prevention. This position reports to the NEPSCO PGD Technical Services Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as senior safety and health advisor to LFGTE and RNG facilities, supporting leaders, employees, project teams, and contractors.
  • Interprets and communicates federal, state, local, OSHA, and company safety and health requirements.
  • Develops implementation guidance and supports regulatory inspections, agency inquiries, and internal audits.
  • Develops and improves safety management systems, programs, procedures, work practices, tools, and training materials.
  • Conducts site inspections, observations, risk assessments, and job safety analyses; recommends controls and tracks corrective actions.
  • Leads safety-event investigations; identifies causes, develops corrective actions, and communicates lessons learned.
  • Develops and delivers training and communications, provides coaching, facilitates meetings, and maintains training records.

Supports construction, maintenance, commissioning, startup, contractor, and other nonroutine high-risk work.

  • Supports industrial hygiene, emergency response, occupational health, and other assigned safety programs.
  • Partners with internal and external stakeholders to implement practices that prevent employee and contractor injuries and illnesses.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, safety management, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible occupational safety and health experience in industrial operations or comparable work environments.
  • Current certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry and Construction Standards and their application to field controls.
  • Experience conducting assessments or audits, developing safety programs, delivering training, and leading incident investigations.
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements, exercise sound judgment, and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams for reports, presentations, and basic data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct safety experience in LFGTE, RNG, gas processing, oil and gas, power generation, utilities, or a comparable high-hazard industry.
  • Experience leading multi-site safety and health programs and safety management system improvements.
  • Experience with contractor safety, process safety management concepts, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, or occupational health programs.

Travel and Work Requirements

  • A valid drivers license and successful background check, preemployment physical examination, and drug screening.
  • Up to 75% travel to facilities within the United States.
  • Participation in emergency-response activities and occasional work outside normal business hours.
  • The office location is in Ocean County, New Jersey. Being located in our Houston office will also be considered based on business need, the candidates qualifications and experience, and will require manager approval.

The estimated base pay for this position is $94,400.00 to $141,600.00 per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
