We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Cloud Storage & Archive Engineer to design, build, automate, and operate enterprise-scale data archiving and restore solutions across NetApp, AWS, cloud storage, and vaulting environments.
This role will own the technical architecture and implementation of reliable, high-performance archive workflows, ensuring data can be efficiently moved, validated, indexed, retained, retrieved, and restored at scale. The ideal candidate combines deep enterprise storage expertise with strong AWS, DevOps, systems engineering, automation, and API integration skills.
The engineer will work across storage infrastructure, cloud platforms, automation, data management, and operational workflows to build a highly reliable and traceable archive platform supporting large-scale enterprise data environments.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical experience.
5+ years of professional experience in storage engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, systems engineering, archive platforms, or a related discipline.
Strong experience architecting enterprise-scale archive, restore, storage, or data lifecycle solutions.
Hands-on experience with AWS S3, AWS DataSync, and AWS Storage Gateway.
Strong understanding of Amazon S3 storage classes, lifecycle policies, versioning, retention, and retrieval characteristics.
Experience developing automation using one or more of Python, PowerShell, Bash, REST APIs, AWS CLI, or AWS SDKs.
Experience designing reliable automated workflows with validation, retry logic, error handling, monitoring, and auditability.
Experience with enterprise storage environments and data movement at scale.
Experience with APIs and system integrations, including workflow or ticketing platforms.
Strong DevOps and production operations experience, including monitoring, logging, alerting, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
Ability to design solutions that balance performance, reliability, recovery requirements, security, and cost.
Key ResponsibilitiesArchive & Storage Architecture
Architect reliable, scalable, consistent, and high-performance archiving and restore solutions across NetApp, AWS S3, cloud storage, and vaulting environments.
Design enterprise storage and data lifecycle strategies based on performance, accessibility, retention, recovery objectives, and cost.
Evaluate and implement appropriate AWS S3 storage classes, lifecycle policies, versioning, retention controls, and retrieval strategies.
Design solutions capable of supporting large-scale and potentially multi-petabyte data environments.
Develop architecture standards and best practices for archive, restore, backup, and data lifecycle management.
AWS & Archive Automation
Design and build automated archive and restore workflows using AWS DataSync, AWS Storage Gateway, Amazon S3, and related AWS services.
Develop automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, REST APIs, AWS CLI, and AWS SDKs.
Build orchestration that manages data movement, validation, archival, retrieval, and restoration.
Develop reusable automation frameworks that minimize manual intervention and operational risk.
Implement workflow guardrails, validation checks, error handling, retry mechanisms, and exception management.
Ensure archive and restore processes are repeatable, traceable, auditable, and resilient.
Data Integrity & Cataloging
Implement data-integrity controls before source data is deleted or transitioned to archive.
Design validation and reconciliation processes using checksums, metadata comparisons, file counts, and other integrity checks.
Utilize indexing and data-management platforms such as Diskover to catalog archived content and maintain searchable metadata.
Design strategies for efficient identification, search, retrieval, and restoration of archived content.
Maintain accurate archive metadata and data lineage throughout the lifecycle of archived information.
Workflow & Systems Integration
Design and automate the complete archive request lifecycle from Ticketbooth through Jira and into the archive platform.
Integrate Jira and external systems using APIs, webhooks, workflow automation, and custom integrations.
Automate request validation, approvals, job initiation, status tracking, exception handling, completion reporting, and audit-trail maintenance.
Develop dashboards, reporting, and operational visibility into archive and restore activities.
Partner with application, infrastructure, security, storage, and business teams to define requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
DevOps & Production Operations
Apply DevOps and systems engineering practices to production cloud and storage environments.
Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, alerting, observability, and performance management.
Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Establish operational standards for reliability, availability, scalability, and recoverability.
Support production incidents and continuously improve platform stability and automation.
Apply infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, security, IAM, and configuration-management practices where appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced experience with NetApp ONTAP, NAS, NFS, SMB, and enterprise storage architectures.
Experience designing and operating multi-petabyte archive, backup, vaulting, or data lifecycle environments.
Hands-on experience with Diskover or similar data indexing/cataloging platforms.
Experience integrating Jira with external systems using APIs, webhooks, or workflow automation.
Experience implementing data-integrity validation, including checksums, metadata comparison, reconciliation, and pre-deletion validation.
Experience designing archive metadata, indexing, cataloging, and search strategies.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and practices.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery.
Knowledge of cloud security, IAM, encryption, access controls, and compliance requirements.
Experience with observability platforms and enterprise monitoring solutions.
Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical production environments.
Key Technical SkillsCloud: AWS, Amazon S3, AWS DataSync, AWS Storage Gateway
Storage: NetApp ONTAP, NAS, NFS, SMB, enterprise storage, vaulting
Automation: Python, PowerShell, Bash, AWS CLI, AWS SDKs, REST APIs
Data Management: Diskover, indexing, metadata management, cataloging, data integrity
DevOps: CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, logging, alerting, observability
Integration: Jira, Ticketbooth, APIs, webhooks, workflow orchestration
Operations: Capacity planning, performance management, troubleshooting, incident response
Security: IAM, encryption, access controls, auditability, retention Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical architect and engineer who can move seamlessly between enterprise storage infrastructure, AWS cloud services, automation, APIs, and production operations.
You should be comfortable taking a complex, manual archive process and turning it into a fully automated, observable, validated, and auditable platform. You understand both the underlying storage technologies and the software engineering required to orchestrate them reliably at enterprise scale.
Success in this role requires strong technical ownership, problem-solving skills, attention to data integrity, and the ability to design solutions that are reliable in production—not simply solutions that work in a development environment.
