Tesla s North America Factory and Refinery Infrastructure Engineering Team is seeking a highly experienced Power Studies Engineer to join our team and support the analysis and design of complex electrical power systems for Tesla s global manufacturing and operational facilities. This is an in-person role within Tesla, where you ll contribute to infrastructure that powers some of the world s most advanced manufacturing and technology operations.
As a Power Studies Engineer, you will play a key role in evaluating electrical system performance, reliability, and resiliency through advanced power system studies and modeling. You will work closely with electrical engineering teams, utilities, and project stakeholders to develop solutions for high-density industrial and manufacturing facilities where system reliability and uptime are paramount.

Perform comprehensive power system studies using ETAP or SKM including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding, power quality, harmonic analysis, transient analysis, and reliability studies
Perform electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to evaluate system behavior during switching events, faults, and utility disturbances
Analyze the impact of high-density industrial and manufacturing loads on utility, emergency generators, and facility electrical infrastructure
Support utility interconnection studies and coordinate with utility providers on service requirements and system performance
Evaluate system reliability, redundancy strategies, contingency scenarios, and power system resiliency
Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, study documentation, and recommendations; collaborate with electrical design teams on medium-voltage systems, substations, standby generation, and UPS systems
Participate in design coordination meetings with stakeholders, support commissioning activities, and review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable standards
Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience, with a minimum of 8+ years of experience in power systems engineering, utility engineering, substations, transmission and distribution, industrial facilities, or mission-critical infrastructure
Experience performing power system studies including transient, harmonic, and grounding analysis using ETAP or SKM
Strong understanding of electrical power systems, utility infrastructure, substations, protective relaying, system reliability, and utility interconnections
Experience performing underground ductbank ampacity and heat studies, short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis
PE license preferred; clear understanding of NEC, IEEE 519, IEEE 3000 series, IEEE transformers and switchgear standards, NFPA, NESC, and utility standards
Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills with excellent communication and collaboration abilities
