    Job Description

Every AWS customer, from a solo developer to a Fortune 100 finance team, eventually asks the same questions. What am I spending? Why am I spending it? What should I do about it? AWS Billing answers those questions for millions of customers, inside a business running at a $169 billion annualized revenue run rate.

That job is changing as AI agents are starting to act on customers" behalf. They forecast spend, recommend commitments, flag anomalies, and increasingly take action on customer's behalf. When an agent touches someone"s money, the design questions get harder: What is it allowed to do on its own? How does it explain itself? How does the customer stay in control and undo what it did? Few products anywhere face these questions at this scale or with these stakes.

We"re looking for a Senior Product Designer to help answer them. You"ll define how customers and AI agents work together to understand, forecast, and control cloud spend, and you"ll set the patterns other teams build on.

    • Design for trust where it matters most. Billing is where customers decide whether to trust AWS with their money, and where AI has to earn that trust.
    • Define agentic UX, not just screens. Shape what agents do on a customer"s behalf, where humans approve, and how automated actions stay transparent and reversible.
    • Work with a wide range of customers and rich data. Design for developers, FinOps practitioners, CFOs, and channel partners, using some of the richest usage and spend data at AWS.
    • Ship as an embedded partner. Work alongside product, engineering, and data science from problem framing through post-launch iteration.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Frame ambiguous problems before solving them. Drive clarity when requirements, customers, and feasibility are undefined.
    • Define how AI agents act on customers" behalf: what they do autonomously, where humans approve, and how customers take control back.
    • Design trust patterns that surface an agent"s confidence, reasoning, and attribution, so customers understand why it acts.
    • Design human-in-the-loop, approval, and undo patterns for actions that move money.
    • Create coherent experiences across conversational, agent-driven, and console interfaces.
    • Lead design from problem framing through launch, then use data signals to improve what ships.
    • Partner early with data science, legal, and policy as co-designers on AI features with financial or compliance complexity.
    • Establish patterns and standards that become how the team operates. Mentor other designers.
    • Write narratives and strategy documents that move decisions forward, and present them to senior leadership.

    A day in the life

Your morning starts with usage data from an anomaly-alert flow you shipped last month. Then you meet your PM and engineering lead to frame a new problem: when should an agent pause spend without asking? You prototype two directions with AI tools and bring them to critique. After lunch, you work with data science and legal on how an agent explains a commitment recommendation. You end the day refining a narrative for leadership review. Your customers range from solo builders to CFOs. Your work decides whether they trust an agent with their money.

    About the team

AWS Billing sits at the intersection of trust and scale. Every customer, from a first-time builder to a Fortune 100 enterprise, relies on us to make spending transparent and controllable. We are a tight-knit design group within the larger AWS Design organization. We work with product, engineering, and data science. We move fast without lowering the craft bar. We are designing agents that can spot a cost spike and help stop it before the bill arrives. We believe billing should not just work. It should build confidence. If hard problems and high ownership energize you, you"ll fit right in.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
