Tesla's Industrial Products team is looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the compliance, safety, and fire protection roadmap across our industrial energy hardware portfolio. As Tesla's energy storage business scales globally and enters new markets and applications, staying ahead of evolving regulatory requirements is critical to market access and customer confidence. This role is responsible for developing strategy, defining requirements, and driving execution to ensure our products meet - and exceed - the standards that matter most to our customers and markets worldwide.
Own the compliance, safety, and fire protection roadmap across Industrial Products hardware, including utility-scale battery energy storage systems
Monitor, interpret, and translate global regulatory requirements and industry standards into actionable product requirements and development milestones
Work closely with hardware engineering, product management, and legal teams to integrate compliance into product development from the earliest stages
Build and maintain relationships with third-party certification bodies, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), standards organizations, and regulatory stakeholders globally
Manage concurrent type testing and certification programs across multiple product lines and geographies - coordinating with labs, notified bodies, and engineering teams to hit milestones
Define and drive the fire protection and safety strategy as product configurations and deployment environments evolve globally
Support customers and sales teams with compliance documentation, certifications, and technical guidance for project approvals and permitting
Partner with standards bodies, certification agencies (e.g., UL, NFPA, IEEE), and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to interpret, influence, and ensure compliance with key ESS safety and regulatory codes, including UL 9540, UL 1973, NFPA 855, NFPA 70 (NEC), UL 9540A, IEC standards, and local building/fire/electrical codes
Communicate compliance status, risks, and gaps clearly to product and executive leadership
Track emerging requirements in key markets - North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific - and proactively plan product responses before they become commercial blockers
3-5+ years of experience in product management, engineering, or regulatory affairs within the energy storage, power systems, or industrial sector
Exposure to BESS compliance, safety standards, or fire protection for energy storage systems is strongly preferred
Familiarity with key frameworks such as NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, IEC 62619, and equivalent global standards; AHJ engagement experience a plus
Experience managing concurrent certification programs across multiple product lines and geographies
Strong cross-functional collaboration and project management skills across engineering, legal, and commercial teams
Ability to communicate complex regulatory information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Experience working with certification bodies (UL, TÜV, Intertek, Bureau Veritas, or equivalent) and navigating multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments
Degree in Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
Self-motivated, proactive, and energized by keeping complex products ahead of the regulatory curve
Deeply believe in and love the compliance, safety, and compliance space for industrial products
