Senior Project Manager
Project Overview
A specialty materials manufacturing company is relocating key production operations from an existing facility to a new industrial site. The project involves relocating specialized equipment and processes handling hazardous / flammable materials. As the new site goes live, it will require optimization efforts and continuous improvement coordination, with the Sr. Project Manager helping lead those critical decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end relocation project, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, contractor management, permitting, installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Conduct immediate reviews of existing contractor quotes, scopes, and infrastructure spending to identify cost-saving opportunities (e.g., challenging permitting requirements, leveraging grandfathered permits in the new industrial facility, and eliminating non-essential upgrades).
  • Prioritize critical-path equipment and processes; make hard decisions on deferrable items to ensure operational continuity post-move.
  • Collaborate closely with internal operations and engineering teams (who have deep process knowledge) to define minimum requirements for safe and compliant production startup.
  • Manage constructability, code compliance, hazard classifications, and safety protocols for facilities involving combustible materials.
  • Oversee equipment installation, power/utilities integration, HVAC, and other infrastructure in a former chemical facility.
  • Negotiate with contractors, challenge cost escalations, and ensure value engineering without compromising safety or regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate permitting, inspections, and qualifications needed for production resumption.
  • Provide regular progress reports, risk assessments, and decision recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Facilitate workshops, site walks, and adversarial reviews to align stakeholders and drive rapid decisions.

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • 10+ years of project management experience in industrial/manufacturing construction or relocation projects, preferably in chemical, powder processing, petrochemical, or hazard-rated (H-occupancy) facilities.
  • Proven track record managing capital projects involving hazardous/combustible materials, including hazard classifications, IBC/IFC codes, permitting, and safety compliance.
  • Strong background in construction management, including evaluating bids, constructability reviews, cost control, and value engineering.
  • Experience bringing over-budget/behind-schedule projects back on track through scope reduction, prioritization, and contractor negotiations.
  • Ability to make decisive, risk-based recommendations on technical and compliance issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with operations teams, contractors, regulators, and executives.
  • Local to the Greater Boston area (or willing to relocate temporarily) for daily on-site presence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; PMP or similar certification a plus.

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts permitting and industrial zoning.
  • Experience in specialty metals or high-value materials processing.
  • Demonstrated success in facility moves/relocations with minimal production downtime.

Drug and background screenings required
