Position SummaryWe are looking for a technically strong and operationally sharp Revenue Accounting Lead to be the engine behind our ASC 606 compliance, month-end close, revenue projects and controls framework. This role sits at the intersection of technical accounting and operational excellence. You bring experience across both private and public company environments and are comfortable owning processes end-to-end while partnering cross‑functionally with DealOps, Business System, FP&A, Legal, and Product.About The RoleRevenue Close & Technical AccountingOwn and execute the monthly revenue close process, including contracts review, SSP analysis, contract modifications, multi‑element arrangement accounting, and revenue disclosure under ASC 606.Prepare and review revenue journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analyses with clear audit trails.Partner with DealOps on contract review to assess revenue recognition implications prior to execution.Controls, Compliance & Audit ReadinessMaintain and enforce a strong internal controls environment over revenue — document SOX‑ready policies, procedures, and control narratives.Lead coordination with external auditors for quarterly reviews and year‑end audits; own PBC schedules and audit support for all revenue‑related requests.Monitor and interpret new accounting guidance (FASB, SEC) and assess impact on revenue policies.Process Optimization & SystemsIdentify and drive improvements to the revenue close process and routine tasks — reduce cycle time, eliminate manual work, and build scalable workflows.Own revenue system integrity; work with Business System to ensure contracts and revenue data flows accurately into the GL (NetSuite or equivalent).Build and maintain automated revenue schedules, reporting templates, and exception monitoring tools (Excel / Gsheets), ideally utilizing AI tools (Claude).Cross‑functional Partnership & ReportingPrepare accurate, executive‑ready revenue reporting packages and variance analyses for finance management.Act as a trusted business partner to DealOps, Business System, FP&A, Legal, and Product.Mentor and develop junior team members; set clear standards for work quality and documentation.About YouRequired Experience & Skills4‑6+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, with demonstrated ownership of ASC 606 in a SaaS or software environment.Experience in both private and public companies (or public‑ready / Big 4‑audited) settings — you understand the difference in rigor and documentation standards.Hands‑on expertise with month‑end close ownership and audit process, not just participation.Strong working knowledge of internal controls, SOX compliance, and audit coordination.Proven track record of managing multiple competing deliverables and ruthlessly prioritizing focus in a fast‑paced environment.Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills; experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, or comparable ERP/CRM systems.CPA license plus (active or inactive).Analytical & Critical ThinkingYou identify root causes, not just symptoms — when a number looks off, you dig until you find why.You can translate complex technical accounting conclusions into plain‑language memos and policy documents that non‑accountants can act on.You proactively surface revenue risks and quantify their impact before they become audit findings.Process & Operational MindsetYou don't accept “that's how we've always done it” — you look for leverage through automation, standardization, and better data flows.You have built or meaningfully improved a revenue close process: documented the steps, found the bottlenecks, and shipped the fix.You are comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in a fast‑moving, resource‑constrained environment.Preferred QualificationsBig 4 public accounting background with technology sector clients.Experience through an IPO, M&A transaction, or significant systems implementation.Familiarity with revenue automation tools (Zuora Revenue, RevPro, or NetSuite ARM).Exposure to usage‑based / consumption based models.Savvy on AI tools to build automated workflows.What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)Close ownership fully transitioned — you are driving the revenue close independently by Month2.At least two material process improvements shipped and documented by Month6.Controls documentation updated to audit‑ready standard; zero material weaknesses in next audit cycle.Trusted cross‑functional partner to DealOps and FP&A, with proactive deal review cadence established.Work LocationIdeally we would like someone to work hybrid from the Bay Area but we will consider qualified candidates who are remote within the US.What You Will Have at HarnessCompetitive salaryComprehensive healthcare benefitsFlexible Spending Account (FSA)Flexible work scheduleEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Flexible Time Off and Parental LeaveMonthly, quarterly, and annual social and team building eventsMonthly internet reimbursementAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin.#J-18808-Ljbffr
