Equity Statement
The Y actively promotes a culture free from bias and injustice. We are dedicated to removing institutional and systemic barriers that result in oppression and racism. SUMMARY
The Community Volunteer Manager, reporting to the Sr. Director of Financial Development, leads the YMCA of Greater Seattle’s association-wide infrastructure for safe, meaningful, equitable, and strategically aligned volunteer engagement. The Manager develops volunteer workforce plans, recruitment and onboarding systems, staff training, policies, performance standards, and impact measures that help branches and programs expand community participation and service capacity.
Serving as the organization’s subject matter expert on volunteerism, this position advises leaders on volunteer role design, capacity, compliance, accessibility, supervision, and program quality. The Manager leads through influence across a matrixed organization and partners closely with branch leadership, Human Resources, Risk Management, Financial Development, Marketing, and other organizational teams.
As a member of the YGS’s Equity and Justice Center of Excellence (CoE), the Director of Volunteer and Community Engagement will be responsible for building organizational capacity by establishing a meaningful culture of antiracist and culturally responsive volunteer and community engagement that aligns with the organization’s strategic plan. We believe that by engaging individual volunteers to have a collective impact, the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS) can be the greatest force for good in our community. We want to be a place where a diverse team of staff, program participants and community volunteers leverage and celebrate the power and benefits of antiracist volunteerism. Antiracist volunteerism helps us work as one community to center those furthest from opportunity. We know that through this lift the Y will create and redesign systems to benefit all people.
