Staff Accountant

A nonprofit organization on Long Island is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team in Suffolk County, supporting a broad range of accounting and finance functions.

About the Opportunity:

• Schedule: Monday to Friday
• Hours: 9am to 5pm
• Setting: On-site

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and organize invoices and data entry for expenditure claim processing
• Support budget preparation, budget modifications, and budget-to-actual reporting
• Perform general ledger work, including journal entry review and account reconciliations
• Manage outstanding checks and coordinate related follow-up with vendors, staff, and clients
• Review utility bills, support sales tax exemption processing, and assist with required tax reimbursement forms
• Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of related work experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP functions, and conditional formulas
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word
• Experience with document management and electronic record storage
• Strong professional communication, time management, multitasking, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills

Desired Skills:

• Familiarity with Concur, DocuWare, or Abila MIP
• Experience working with ADP payroll data
• Background in nonprofit or human services accounting
• Exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general accounting support functions
