Job Overview - Staff Accountant - 34264
We're looking for a contract Staff Accountant who will be responsible for interpreting labor agreements and ensuring compliance with contract terms while calculating and remitting benefit contributions and union dues for union associates. This role includes determining benefit eligibility, preparing and submitting monthly union benefit payments with supporting documentation, and ensuring Union Dues balance sheet accounts are accurate and reconciled monthly. The Staff Accountant acts as a liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve discrepancies, provide guidance, and ensure timely and accurate payments.
- Review and interpret Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) to determine associate eligibility, benefit entitlements, rates, probation periods, and other contract-related terms.
- Prepare monthly journal entries, payments, and reconciliations related to union benefits and dues.
- Serve as a liaison between field operations, unions, and corporate functions including Labor Relations, Field Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
- Audit union associates monthly for deductions, payroll coding, and hire/termination dates to ensure compliance with contract terms.
- Ensure assigned balance sheet accounts accurately reflect transactions and are reviewed and reconciled monthly.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with SAP is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
