Job Title: Staff Accountant (Construction)
Job Type: Temp-to-hire or Direct hire
Job Salary: $70,000-$75,000 (DOE)
Job Schedule: M-F, 40 hrs/week
Job Location: Houston, TX 77002

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry to support our growing accounting team. This role will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, job cost tracking, and financial reporting. Experience with Sage 100 or ComputerEase is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Support job costing and project accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of construction project expenses and revenues
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and assist with revenue recognition
  • Process invoices, subcontractor pay applications, and lien waivers
  • Assist with accounts payable and receivable activities as needed
  • Partner with project managers to review budgets, forecasts, and cost variances
  • Prepare financial reports and support internal/external audits
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Assist with process improvements and system enhancements

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience, with construction industry experience required
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and project-based accounting
  • Experience with Sage 100 or ComputerEase
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
  • Knowledge of GAAP principles
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with subcontract billing, AIA billing, and retainage tracking
  • Exposure to multi-entity or multi-project accounting environments
  • CPA or CPA track (a plus, not required)
