About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a growing accounting team supporting operations within the oil & gas, energy, construction, or industrial services industries. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of their work, and wants to continue developing their accounting career.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting, preferably within an operationally focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments
- Perform monthly account and bank reconciliations and research variances
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting documentation
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal reporting
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and cash application activities as needed
- Assist with project, job cost, revenue, or cost accounting depending on business needs
- Review transactions for accuracy and proper account coding
- Analyze expenses and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Support internal and external audits by providing schedules and documentation
- Maintain organized and accurate accounting records
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting
- Perform other accounting and finance responsibilities as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 2–5 years of accounting experience
- Experience in oil & gas, energy, construction, engineering, industrial services, or a related industry strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Hands-on experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting
- Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
- Experience with an ERP/accounting system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, or similar
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
