Staff Accountant


A well-established Sacramento-based organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This position will play a key role in supporting the organization's financial operations, reporting, compliance, and month-end close processes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in general accounting, experience preparing financial statements, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, accountability, and meeting deadlines are essential.


Responsibilities

• Prepare weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.

• Prepare cash reporting and monitor cash activity.

• Maintain general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.

• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.

• Prepare financial statements and related supporting schedules.

• Perform balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.

• Analyze general ledger accounts and investigate variances.

• Review accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, and cash receipt activity.

• Assist with regulatory, compliance, and reporting requirements.

• Support annual audit preparation and external auditor requests.

• Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reports.

• Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives.

• Provide support to senior accounting and finance leadership as needed.


Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

• Minimum 3 years of progressive general accounting experience.

• Experience preparing financial statements and working knowledge of GAAP.

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.


Preferred Background

• Experience working in a multi-entity or complex organizational environment.

• Exposure to audit support, financial reporting, and compliance activities.
